LOL.

I think Newsom wins by more than the 4 points this poll shows and less than the 30 points that some Atlas posters are predicting.

The bad news is that Prop. 6 is leading, even if you decide to "correct" this poll.

They have a lot of money from national Republicans. It's to try to boost Republican turnout to save vulnerable House Republicans.

The gas tax is terrible. Do you guys enjoy paying 3.60 a gallon for regular, because I don't. It hurts the poor the most and not all of the money from the gas tax goes towards road repair. Is it that hard to believe that Newsom only wins by 20. Brown won by 20 last time. Also lol at the Lt. Gov poll: 18%-15.3% lead for Hernandez.

Newsom has never been very popular statewide but the "Drumpf sucks" bounce will probably give him a landslide by default.

I would at least consider the ramifications of the other component of that initiative: It makes it really hard for the legislature to ever raise any sort of gas or car tax/fees in the future, because every single increase has to be approved by voters before it can go into effect. That is a terrible way to run a state, especially considering the legislature already needs 2/3rd vote to approve new taxes. There is no guarantee voters will approve even modest increases that are needed to actually fix roads if conservatives can whip up generic anti-tax sentiment each time.

They should have just done a simple repeal of the gas tax only. At least that would signal to the legislature that it's unacceptable, and they need to go back to the drawing board.

On the gas tax thing, jack them up so that the true cost to society of consuming gas is internalized, and cut a check to everyone offsetting that additional tax. That will induce folks to reduce their commute times, etc. There is actually a national proposal to do this (carbon based products as a whole, not just gas), supported by both conservative and liberal economists. If you want to raise revenue, means test who gets the checks, so the tax hits those of means only.

Sorry to go off topic here.

Multiply this by 7 or 8 and I'll believe it.

I’m not sure what things Newsom would have to do to only win by 4, and I’d rather not spend any time thinking about it. Obvious junk.

No one likes higher taxes but I don't mind a higher gas tax if it means better infrastructure. Every time my family from the UK visit they comment on how dismal California's roads and freeways are.

America's infrastructure in general is embarrassing.

I for one absolutely hate paying a whole half cent extra per mile I travel with the promise of better roads.

I’m tempted to get a No on 6 sticker for my car.

And no, Cox isn’t going to come within 15, let alone 5 percent of Newsom.

Once early voting begin, in a few weeks, Newsom numbers will be closer to 2016, as Californians want Pelosi as Speaker.😁

It seems that Newsom is Medium; closer to Well Done than Rare.  His campaign is cooked!

Is Newson being hurt by weak candidate Jacky Rosen? Or does he need help with his retail politics? Tester should step in immediately, tbh.

Agreed. Honestly, I don't know why tester is being so selfish in trying to track 500% when he could easily loan his epic retail politics power and mega coattails to endangered candidates like Gavin Newsom.

Only problem with that is they might just all decide to write in Jon Tester (not an option in CA, but most other states).
