This was agreed on here in Salzburg today at the EU summit:

Just sink the boats. Sink one, and nobody will try it again.

How many boats are sailing from Egypt though? I guess it's better than nothing but I'm fairly sure Egypt is not the main departure point by any stretch.

The main departure points seem to be Morocco (pretty sure Europe has reached tons of deals with them), Algeria (no idea), Tunisia (we should really talk to them) and Lybia (we should talk to them but they don't have a viable government)

Egypt isn't the sickness... Eritrea is the more realistic candidate for that.

Love this. But I think tack50 is right. That said, if we could send migrants to Egypt in the future regardless of whether they came from there, that would be great.

I think it's more that the EU/Kurz want Egypt to play a bigger role when it comes to dealing with their neighbour Libya (either by providing aid or by putting them under some pressure to effectively seal the borders and return the migrants back to the African interior where they belong).

You do know Egypt's population has tripled since the 1960s, right?

You do know like a hundred boats have sunken in the Med already, and yet people are still willing to risk it?
