Welcome to the PUP October convention, and welcome to Boston!

Per the bylaws, this will be a major convention. We shall first consider any changes to the party by-laws and platforms, and will consider endorsement requests. Note that we will not hold a vote on the presidential endorsement until the Labor primary is concluded. If more than 2 candidates ultimately end up running we will include a vote on endorsement for 2nd preference. At the end of the convention we will elect the Chair and Deputy Chair-as I previously stated I will not run for another term as Chair-and we will vote on the location of our December convention. We may also consider any other matters I find pertinent(tbd).

House; Matthew27 and JGibson are endorsed. Endorsement request period is open.
Senate; No automatic endorsements. Endorsement request period is open.
Regional govt; Endorsement request period is open.

Sign ins are open, and after that we will get down to business.

Current platform
1. Phasing out fossil fuel based power plants for clean and renewable sources, using a combination of solar, wind, hydro, tidal, thermal, and nuclear.
2. Training programs for fossil fuel industry workers to help them become employed in modern industries.
3. Modernization of Atlasian infrastructure.
4. Ensuring the rights of LGBT people and reducing discrimination.
5. Updating school curriculum for modern times and take steps to prevent low income students from receiving lower quality education.
6. Closing tax loopholes used by corporations and the wealthy.
7. Auditing government departments, particularly defense, to find and eliminate unnecessary spending.
8. Streamline the immigration process to encourage legal immigration, allow those here illegally to become legal citizens, and encourage asylum seekers to come into Atlasia.
9. Don't start unwarranted wars.
10. Expand our global research partnerships.
11. Make the federal government a model employer.
12. Reform the criminal justice system to focus more on rehabilitation and end mass incarceration.

Right, let's get down to business. I will leave 72 hours for proposals for amendments to the party platform. I am also open to having the platform and a shorter condensed statement of our values. Members are allowed to introduce amendments adding or removing clauses from the platform, you can also amend individual clauses, either shortening/condensing them, extending them or altering the meaning. I will accept late sign-ins from those who are already members, but anyone joining PUP after this post does not get to vote in this convention.

Ninja0428's request for an endorsement is noted, this issue will be voted on later in the convention. As for the Labor primary, I urge Labor to decide their nominee within the next week ideally. If they put their primary too late I may be forced to hold an endorsement vote that includes both Labor tickets.

One amendment was offered, we will now vote on it. Here's what the platform would look like if it passes(changes are in bold).
1. Phasing out by 2045 fossil fuel based power plants for clean and renewable sources, using a combination of solar, wind, hydro, tidal, thermal, and nuclear.
13.  Increasing by 10% the funding for research science and cures for diseases.
14. Increasing funding for manned space exploration to the moon and mars
15. An increase of 10% in funding for public education
16. Legalizing most drugs

I have edited the amendment gramatically but it remains the same substantively. The vote will remain open for 48 hours.

Aye on 1-15, Nay on 16. I'm sceptical that it's a good idea to outright legalize hard drugs like heroin and meth, though decriminalization seems like a better idea and we should certainly work(as I did with my criminal justice reform bill) to create a greater focus on rehabilitation in our justice system and to treat these drug-related issues as a health issue not a criminal one for the addicts(while I do support the legalization-or in many cases for Atlasia the continued legality-of soft drugs). I admittedly haven't heard an argument for 16 so am open to being informed why the author thought this would be positive.

Ah I'd prefer that it be reworded to say legalization of soft drugs to clarify we don't legalize hard drugs. Since idk if most drugs are soft drugs or hard drugs so wasn't sure what this exactly supported.

1-15 pass 4-0. 16 passes 3-1.

I'll open an endorsement vote tomorrow, so last chance to request our party's endorsement.

In the meantime, enjoy this photo of our party's great mascot.

Candidates for endorsements would be well-advised to post similar photos or send them to me if they wish to receive my support and that of our great party.
