Question: opinion of polygraphs
#1
I always believe them, is there a reason not to?

#2
they work enough for me (at least this month)

#3
I usually think they work, but not this month

#4
they are good for getting dumb/ignorant people to admit guilt, basically worthless otherwise

#5
I just don't believe that they do what they claim to do

#6
I don't like any of these answers, my views on the polygraph are all over the place

A good money source for former law enforcement who like intimidating people with wiggly lines and sleights of hand.  Should be done away with.

There's a good reason it's inadmissible.

They're good for measuring nervousness, but lousy at indicating why.

Lately, a nice little counter example for the "conservatives are anti-science" crowd.

that's (obviously) what gave me the idea for this.  I had assumed that everybody (that isn't a moron) knew polygraphs were BS, but there was Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar (who should know better than most people, being prosecutors) trotting it out there as some sort of proof of something.  It was all very weird and like the Swetnik thing, does damage to the picture the Dems are trying to paint here.

They're useless, and a hardened criminal who knows how to keep their nerves down is much more likely to pass than an innocent person still dealing with the shock of being arrested and accused of a crime.

Generally good enough to prove almost anything to a preponderance of evidence standard when no other evidence exists, but still way too unreliable to justify any use whatsoever.
