What would have happened if Brian Mulroney had not retired and remained as the Progressive Conservative leader for the 1993 election? Would the PCs have suffered such a monumental loss?

IMO, Chretien still wins bigly, but the then-PCs don't get wiped out in such a manner.  They keep official party status.

However, from what I've researched on Canadian politics, the dissolution of the Progressive Conservatives was all but inevitable.  They would have ceased to exist sooner or later.

Pretty sure Mulroney's approval ratings hovered in the teens IIRC. Perhaps instead of two seats the PC's get wiped out completely.

12% approval rating or not, I'm inclined to think that Mulroney would have done a better job at defending the government's record than Campbell did. The PCs may have held on to official party status with a rump of 12-15 MPs clustered in the Maritimes and Quebec.
