Aren't most of the seats held under FPTP now? Outside of the block of proportionals?

currently it's all FPTP or PR block. This map I have here wouldn't change that but it would increase the overall seat count, to heavily reduce malapportionment.

I've been running the numbers on the new PR blocks. Isshin is benefiting quite a bit from the increased seat counts.

Who would win the new FPTP seats?

No clue, LDP would probably still hold a massive majority of them, but I think CDP and Kibo would have done better.

How much of an urban-rural divide exists in Japan?

Not much really, the majority of both rural and urban areas are pretty damn good for the LDP, the only areas that normally break that rule normally are the urban areas of Aichi, and most of Okinawa.

However, during things like 2009, that whole thing can reverse.

Judging from 2009, it also appears like the farther north you go the more DPJ-friendly the rural areas get (culminating in Hokkaido, where the LDP was almost completely wiped out).

The north and Hokkaido were definitely a DPJ hotspot pre-2009. I don't think that has carried forward into the post-2012 world, though.

Kyoto is also known as a hotspot for the opposition.
