Normally, farming-heavy states typically vote for more free trade, which was the literal opposite of what Perot advocated for.

Because the West is fairly populist and neither Bush nor Clinton were good fits for the region. Ironically though, the West (in this instance I'll count the Plains states as Western although normally I'd more count them as Midwestern) was the only region for whom Bob Dole was a good fit, and that's probably why he took back a few states there.

The West is relatively friendly towards third party candidates, as is New England, where Perot also performed well.

The Deep South, Perot’s worst region, is also the most unfriendly towards third candidates (with 1968 a huge exception, for obvious reasons).

Perot was unwilling to indulge them with race-baiting.
