Sad that we have such a weak 47th Vice President.

Unless, of course, he'd rather face Trump in 2020 than Pence

At this point, it's better to just run on the clock, turn his life into hell through investigations and subpoenas, and focus on defeating him in 2020.

I concur with Biden. The Mueller investigation is ongoing and, so far, Trump hasn’t done anything outside of American Presidential tradition that’d warrant impeachment. Democrats need to focus on real issues, not whether or not Trump said something mean on Twitter and if that makes him deserving of impeachment or not.

This, but also the fact that Pence is far more dangerous than Trump, because of his low key demeanor and greater competence.

He is in clear violation of the Emoluments Clause. He was impeachable the moment he took the oath of office. While unquestionably the de facto holder of the office, his entire term is illegitimate.

Bringing up "Pence is X than Trump" is really, really missing the point. The reason we shouldn't attempt to impeach Trump is because the 2/3rds bar in the Senate is impossible to reach, and a failed impeachment attempt would leave the party looking weak and foolish. That is, however, the only reason we shouldn't attempt to impeach Trump.

But yeah, the new Democratic House should spend its time hounding Trump and gathering dirt for our eventual 2020 nominee to use. Constantly call the creeps in the White House in on subpoenas to speak to various House investigatory committees so they'll be too busy testifying to work. Make their lives miserable.

This. I'm fully aware, however, that Congress as it stands doesn't have the stomach for taking this issue on. It's unfortunate, though, because this is a true undermining of our democracy and one of Mr. Washington's biggest concerns when he left office oh so long ago.

Agreed with all of this and just wanted to note that Pence isn't some master manipulator. He's a fool.

The House will only move to impeachment just a 'courtesy' to its base, as there is zero chance of removal from office with getting nowhere even close to 67 Senators.

Any impeachment proceedings will just be done for political posturing.

If Democrats take the senate, then a President Pence couldn’t do as much damage.

Can we stop acting like Democrats are running exclusively anti-Trump campaigns? Or like Trump tweets were somehow the cornerstone of the Democratic platform? It's one of the dumbest and laziest memes of this cycle.

Impeachment has always been a political, rather than a legal, process. There's no point in going through the process if you can't convict. I'm glad that leading Democrats can see that.

The only way I can see Trump being convicted is that Mueller claims he is culpable in some sort of crime and if the crime isn't punished, it would in itself cause a constitutional crisis.

And if the stuff is that bad, I can see the Republicans persuading Trump to resign.

Maybe that was unfair of me, because you didn't explicitly state it, but that seemed to be the gist of your post: Democrats are running on impeaching Trump/being the anti-Trump and not on issues. This has been a common misconception this election and it's false, annoying, and usually employed in bad faith.

No one in the GOP Congress wants to change candidates midway through 2019 and embroil their party in civil war, no matter how bad the allegations against Trump are.
