Breaking - incumbent Governor Bill Walker has dropped out of the Alaska governor's race. This comes a few days after his Lt. Governor resigned due to inappropriate remarks of some sort.

But Walker will still be on the ballot.

This was about two months too late, but at least it gives Begich odds above 0%.

Yeah This won't change anything especially because his name will still be on the ballot

I mean, Murkowski won while not being on the ballot.

But yes, the republican is still the favorite.

It will drop his vote share a metric ton though because nobody will want to vote for a guy who dropped out. I still think it won't drop it enough though to give Begich a win, especially since there WILL be Walker > Dunleavy voters.

If Alaskans can figure out how to write in "Lisa Murkowski", they can figure out how to not vote for Walker.

Well... I'd say this moves AK-GOV to a solid Likely R.

Absolutely humiliating for Walker. Still think Weak Candidate™ Mike Dunleavy wins, though.

The 2-way polling we've had has showed Dunleavy ahead of Begich.

This makes things more interesting, but this seems too late to really affect things.

I'm not sure why he waited so long to do this. I'm not saying he should've been the one to do it instead of Bad Boy Begich, but there's really not much point this late in the game. Dunleavy's pretty much got this wrapped up, and Walker's probably still going to get a least some votes.

Safe R->Lean R. I do expect about 15% of Walker's voters to go for Dunleavy.

Traditional early voting doesn't start until next week. If Walker waited any longer, Begich wouldn't have had any chance at all.

Perhaps even less, Walker endorsed Begich.

I would say this deserves a return to the tossup catergory until we get new polling.

Not yet. The victim doesn't want it disclosed - whoever she is. We don't even know for sure whether she's a government employee. We know she's not on the governor's staff.

Those are theoretical though. People will likely act differently now that Dunleavy v. Begich is a real thing rather than a theoretical.

I would say this is because of the Lt. GOV scandal. Its lean R, but its possible now that AK is held.
