I would say since the mid-2000s, these are historically Democratic middle class towns in middle-class Middlesex County, NJ, suburbia, but how did they get rightward lately in voting attitudes?

Sayreville is down on its luck. It's tough, so tough.

Anyway, yeah. WWC towns in a diversifying area with neighboring towns both wealthier and even more diverse. You can compare voter behavior here to the Midwest or Brexit in industrial towns. Check out Milltown, too, on the other side of East Brunswick from South River.
