On the one hand, I feel Cruz was uniquely vulnerable because of his smarminess, awful personality, and raw, self-serving ambition. Cornyn is more or less a generic R who doesn't have any of these glaring weaknesses, but whose main (and probably only) weaknesses are that he's boring and has done little to distinguish himself, despite a long tenure in the Senate. For better or worse, the same can't be said of Cruz.

Do you guys think Cornyn would be more beatable in 2020 than Cruz was in 2018?

No, Cornyn will outrun Trump almost everywhere in the state and win by 8-9 points.

People were saying essentially the same thing about Cruz two weeks before the election, and the consensus on Atlas was that Beto would flop and lose by a similar margin to Hillary.

Too early to say: if there's a recession or a military quagmire in Venezuela, yes. If the economy is relatively good, no.

The reason Beto lost was because he failed to increase Hispanic turnout to the same level as he did among other voters. That is why Castro was the best candidate.

The best would have been to have Beto run for Senate and Castro run for Governor.
