Barbara Lee better be the next speaker or DNC chair or something.

Do you not want newer, younger leadership like many Dems want?

Right. I don't think you actually understand what the left is looking for. Also it's doubtful Jeffries is actually a progressive, and if he calls himself one, is just that out of political expediency - something that many centrists/non-progressives have taken to because it's in vogue. lol?

If Jeffries is a "progressive," then I guess we have to come up with a new word, because the center has stolen it.

Because Barbara Lee is a hero and she's the most anti war progressive member of congress. That's why I support her! Kareem Jeffries doesn't come close!!!!!

There should mass protests outside of D.C.! A corporatist hack like Jeffries is no progressive and we should let the neoliberal democrats know we will not accept this kind of corporatism anymore!

Geez guys, settle down. We didnt get Barbara Lee, that sucks, but Jeffries is still the 30th Most Progressive D in the Caucus, and he will be replacing Joe Crowley, a really Centrist Dem. A New Dem, nor a Blue Dog took the seat. We shouldnt be getting ourselves too upset about this.in come the angry comments

Hakeem Jeffries faced no Republican opponent and received 94% of the vote.  I'm not really sure why small donors would waste their donations on such an uncompetitive race.  I don't really think Jeffries lack of small donations necessarily says anything about him or is all that fair an argument to use against him.

I'm not too upset, given the position. But I'm not going to say I am all that enthused about a guy who spent years as a corporate lawyer rising in the ranks, and who in some respects talks like a conservative about the free market / healthcare. Relying on wealthy donors to finance campaigns and the charter school support is also another turnoff but I won't hold the CF against him too much for now, since not every candidate can command a small donor army.

The military industrial complex has too much power for that to happen.

I agree, its just that I think its still a net positive for us. And if we really dont like him, the DSA can just primary him. Its not like hes well entrenched or popular anyway, and it is NY. So far, his voter record is good, and so are his stances, not perfect, but still good.

Strange that nobody in this "new generation of leaders" we keep hearing about that allegedly wants to step up decided to step up and challenge Hoyer.

I guess either there isn't a "new generation of leaders," or for some reason they don't want to step up.

I guess that is the new leadership for you - leading by not stepping up. It is an interesting approach to leadership.

All I know is that it is fabulously hypocritical to be all in for Jeffries, citing a need for "young, new leadership" in the Democratic Party, and then be just as gung ho for Hoyer and Clyburn. Also, who cares about age, it's about values, and Barbara Lee has a strong record of being on the side of progressives, even when that was (and sometimes, continues to be) unpopular.

I want Clyburn and Hoyer replaced too, especially Clyburn (who is objectively a terrible person).

Bustos shouldn't be given the DCCC chairship even if she would be very compotent.
It would be like giving the NRCC  chairmanship to Pete Sessions in 2017.
Her district isn't safe if the NRCC decides to contest it and she will be distracted.

Uhhh no? Difference is that Bustos can win big in Rural America while Sessions failed to even win re-election in a suburban district.

If Clinton won the election Bustos might have been the Pete Sessions/Culberson of 2018. Id say she probably wins as the economy would have been good and Clinton woudln't have taken up all the media but Texas 32nd and Il 17th are 2 districts moving in opposite directions
In 2012 the 17th was  #populist +17 Obama district but in 2016 it was a +1 trump
In 2012 the 32nd was an elitist High landpark Romney District +16 but in 2016 it was +2 Clinton.
Both of these districts are trending fast to one side and Bustos along with Maloney should not rep the DCCC. Rather it should be someone like Tim ryan(not tim ryan himself of course) whose district is swingy but is still 99% safe for him RN.

Lol.

Yeah, no, Cheri is pretty safe.

She won 55-45 in 2014, 60-40 in 2016 and 62-38 in 2018.

She ain't gonna be distracted most years, let alone in 2020.

I wouldnt really call Jeffries a middle finger to progressives. He may have some centrist views but hes young and his progressive voting record is nothing to scoff at.

congressmen culberson and sessions agree

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Culberson#Elections

Im not saying Bustos is doomed or even in a tossup
But it is on the playing field and the GOP should go for it in 2020 considering its basically IA 2nd and 1st shifted 3 points left.
