This is what happens when you elevate republicans, take note politicalmasta73 like your vote for Hogan. Luckily, this probably won’t pan out for him, but it’s just another headache that we will have to spend money in.

Markey is going to get slaughtered if Baker runs. Don't underestimate Baker, he is probably one of, if not the strongest candidate of either party.

Massachusetts and Maryland are peak dumb@$$ states for supporting these clowns. They are Trumpists disguised as sheep. Wake up morons.

This is going to open him to attack that he isn't doing his job, considering that he has 2 years left in his term.

Markey is not super well known or popular but I can't see Baker wining as Trump gets slaughtered up ballot.
Maybe a 10-20%ish chance in 2022 if there is an unpopular Democratic President if Baker really wants to be a Senator. This seems likes wishful thinking on the Herald's part.

Would Baker have to resign as governor to run?

Anyway he could win if he runs as a proto Democrat. He can’t if he runs as anything resembling a Republican. I do hope he wins on a moderate D platform (similar to Hillary’s in 2008) while promising not to vote for McConnell for senate leader. The senate needs more moderates in both parties and I feel like Baker would legitimately be as inclined to work across the aisle as he would be to work with Republicans, if not more so. Of course Atlas hates him because he isn’t a progressive cuck lol

This is part of why I dislike of supporting these kinds of moderates in blue states just because they keep their heads down and are a nice guy FF. You're giving them a potential foothold to contest something like a Senate seat, and those races really matter. For a partisan, this should be a dealbreaker. He'd get to DC and probably end up being a reliable vote for Republicans.

Anyway, this is probably moot. There is a difference between winning the Govs office in a state like Massachusetts and then running to oust a long time incumbent in a Senate race. Democratic voters he needs to win will not be as amenable to that, especially in a year with Trump on the ballot. But fwiw, he'd probably be the best candidate Republicans could put up.

He should try, seriously. Iirc he is term-limited in 2022, and MA has a huge Democratic majority so it's not like he's got anything to lose. I'd just give Baker a free pass to say and do anything he deems necessary to win in the campaign (even if it means distancing from Trump) because he's going to be better than anything that comes out of MA. It'll already be a success if Baker manages to become a lighting rod for Democratic money, he likely won't win but atleast the Democrats would have to waste some sorely needed resources on MA. And if he somehow seriously manages to win this we can start talking about 2024 Smiley.

In a low turnout midterm, he'd probably have a chance. But not with Trump at the top of the ticket.

Funny thing is, him doing this would continue the cycle of Rs never serving 2 full terms as MA governors.

Maybe he'd have a chance in a midterm (especially with a Democratic president), but with Trump on the ballot? Trump will be like a gigantic boulder on his shoulders that gradually crushes him as we get closer and closer to the election.
