Top three most likely imo are Pence, Cotton, and Haley in that order.

Trump won with the help of a third party candidate, Gary Johnson.  Who has no political future, if a Democrat is below 50% and there is a viable third party candidate, then 2024. But, 2028 is the best guess, right now.

DeSantis would probably get less black votes than Trump or Romney.

Cotton, maybe? Or some unknown Republican that we don't know of yet?

Won him Swing State Florida. I could see him having Trumpian appeal mixed with holding down Dubya-style conservatives.

2036. Why all the way then? Is there a demographic war in the 2020s and early 2030s?

Trump was a president no one wanted. Even the GOP didn't want him. Yes, the GOP hung on to Senate, but those were in ND, IN, MO, where Trump already won. Dems will win the trifecta in 2020.

I've got a feeling that it'll be Cotton. Immigration seems to be the strongest issue for today's Republican Party (something of a throwback to the GOP and Whigs of the mid 19th century which I find interesting), and Cotton seems to be the strongest hardliner on immigration in the Senate.

2020: Trump re-elected
2024: Popular Democrat elected with >400 EVs
2028: Popular Democrat re-elected with >500 EVs
2032: Vice President or other Democrat elected narrowly off of popularity
2036: People are very sick of Democrats

Leaving out Pence, I think that Cotton, Ernst, and Haley are the most likely Next Republican President.

Mike Pence should something happen  to President Trump, Otherwise, perhaps the next Dwight Eisenhower. The problem for Republicans is that that the last President to have the temperament of Dwight Eisenhower was Barack Obama.

This isn't the Game of Thrones universe where everything is destined to repeat itself in patterns ... how is that a "problem" for Republicans?  Obama can have the "temperament of Dwight Eisenhower," and there can still be a Republican in the next 10-20 years who does, as well.

The number one issue for voters is obviously, “How much like Eisenhower is his temperament?”
