Basically, when an overall coalition of parties loses an election despite the main party gaining a plurality of votes (indeed increasing its share) because the junior parties collapse?

Denmark's last election for example.

I've seen the derogatory term "coalition of losers" used over here sometimes, particularly by PP, who often won elections with a plurality but was ousted because of a lack of allies.

Then again that doesn't really apply to explicit coalitions made before the election I guess

I think we usually just say 'X party lost thanks to Y party's collapse'
