It seems a bit like 2012, when Obama won the state by 10% while the Democrats won the Senate race by 6%. This time, Biden won it by 11% to a 6% Senate win. I'm not sure why Ronchetti was such a strong candidate, Heather Wilson makes more sense since she'd served a lot in Congress.

It seems tv people are generally strong candidates. Ronchetti was a well known tv weatherman. But we also saw TV anchors Hinson and Salazar knock off D incumbents in the house this year.

I’d like to see him give it another go for gov or the other senate seat

Ronchetti was well-known from his career as a weatherman on a top local news station and ran a fairly rhetorically moderate campaign, plus Lujan seems to have taken a lot for granted.

This is also probably one of the few areas where the Green New Deal actually was a problem for Democrats. It largely is not anywhere close to as unpopular as Republicans want it to be, but it likely did move some voters at the margins in places like NM and parts of Texas where the economy is dominated by oil.
