He’s a superstar. Damn I can’t wait to volunteer for him.
I'm a bit nervous about his vote to Fastrack TPP and deregulate wall street, but otherwise same.

He voted against the banking bill earlier this year, when did he vote for financial deregulation?

Beto will fit right in with the other leaders of the free world...

.

Please don't. Macron is doing a terrible job in France. Even the rich don't like him anymore. He has done terrible things, and i sincerely believe Trump is a better world leader than he is.

I actually didn't realize before reading this thread that Beto supported fast tracking the TPP. Makes me much more likely to support him assuming Bennet doesn't run.

Macron is doing a great job
No french presidents are actually liked. The unions have taken a stranglehold on France and they must be brought down. They strike every single moment.

This is it. I hate to play the enthusiasm card because I hated how HRC was put down bc she wasn't an enthusiastic candidate (even though she obv had the cred), but there is an aura around Beto this time around that is not around ANYONE else right now. He has the hype, the enthusiasm, and the Obama-like inspirational tools.

girl, no. just no. Macron isn't amazing but I'm pretty sure no normal democracy leader from the entire world is as horrific or as dumb as Trump is.

I agree. That's what matters now, even if it shouldn't, and it's what needs to be emphasized. Clinton was experienced and competent, but that, sadly, doesn't appeal to voters anymore...if it ever even did. And even saying that, it's not as if Beto is like Trump and has no experience. He really seems to be one of the best possible candidates at this time and in this era.

I actually wasn't making a commentary on the politics of Macron & Trudeau (Although I do like Trudeau and I don't know much about Macron's politics on a micro level)...

I was really more sort of joking that they look like they could be an aging boyband or something- and the fact that it would be sort of unusual to have 3 major democratic elected leaders who are all in their early to mid 40s (I think Trudeau and Beto are actually less than a year apart age wise).

A fairly substantive article from Politico, of all places. WTF?

Beto Has a Path to the Presidency: Lincoln’s

The Texas newcomer would do well to pay attention to what another political underdog did more than a century ago.

Lol at politico saying he needs to move to the center when he is probably closest to center for a democrat running for president.

Apparently TX Law allows Beto to run both for the Presidency and for the Senate at the same time... So there we go!

Legally, Beto O’Rourke Can Run for President and Senate in 2020]Legally, Beto O’Rourke Can Run for President and Senate in 2020

I really don't get the hate about his name
Its something he has been using since childhood so why can't he keep using it? If he used it specifically to woo hispanics that would be disgusting but he had it since he was a child in EL PASO texas.

He has a much better chance at being President than beating Cornyn. He should just pursue the former.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/iowa-democrats-say-they-want-generational-change-1543833001

Basically an article stating local Iowa Dem leaders are exactly what Beto is looking for. It's not explicitly about him, but it might as well be. His organizational style is made to win the Iowa caucus - I think this aspect about him reminds me of Obama the most.

Running for the Presidency and the Senate simultaneously is what then-Congressman James A. Garfield did in 1880.

Interesting that Robert O'Rourke gets all the flak for his name ("fake Hispanic") but not Rafael Cruz ("fake white")... Sad!

It's typical GOP projection and hypocrisy. It's second nature to them.

All the progressives supporting him because he skates and said the f word... Hopefully when y'all elect him and find him to be another centrist Dem that does nothing for anybody will you learn your lesson, but I guess middling attractive charismatic white men will always cause some of you to salivate.

Believe it or not, the 25% approval rating Macron has is awesome. If he gets like 80-85% of approvers to vote for LREM, then they make the runoff. And then...well LREM will win the majority of left or right voters depending on if the other runoff candidate is right or left. Which shows you how stupid the two-round runoff can be if the political parties are efficiently fragmented like in France right now.
