The Russians are coming!

It looks as if we know why Vladimir Putin so likes Donald Trump and disliked Barack Obama. Barack Obama would not tamper with the rule of law to make things easy on those who violate human rights. Donald Trump has contempt for human rights unless it is to protect those associated with him in their pursuit of maximal profits.

Note that this is from CHBC, which is about as conservative and pro-business as CNBC isn't.

Question on this front:

How would a general emergency declaration affect the Mueller investigation? Would Trump have more power to possibly end it? Could this, in addition to being a play to keep his base happy, be an attempt to alleviate the growing legal pressure he's under?

I hate to laugh at someone for having gout, but if I have to laugh at someone for that, what better person than Manafort?

My uncle had gout a few years ago when he was around 50, which was surprising considering he kept himself in pretty good shape. He pointed out though, that it's not gout. Everyone seems to call it "the gout".

Why everyone seems so sure that Mueller will drop something big by the end of the week?

Personally, I hadn't heard any thing like that. However, between the Supreme Court ruling and today's announcement Rod Rosenstein is likely stepping down soon,....

Yeah, I haven't heard anything along those lines, either. But with Rosenstein stepping down, I expect Mueller to perhaps wrap things up before someone else can try to stick their finger in the pudding.

I wonder if Trump will call this a conflict of interest:

People are also reading into rumors from Rudy.

However, I wouldn’t be shocked if more stuff goes down over the next few weeks once the Dems get established in their committees. Can’t remember... did they already send some stuff to Mueller yet?

If the Senate Judiciary Committee is hearing from Barr next week, confirmation will likely be, what, two weeks from now? And Rosenstein's leaving when Barr comes in, right? Two weeks is not a very long time. Mueller either needs to reach an understanding with Barr (possible, but I'm not betting on it) or just dump everything relatively soon.

F.B.I. Opened Inquiry Into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia

Bottom line, Mueller now oversees this investigation, even though it was started before he was appointed. We don't know its current status, as far as I can tell.

An honest-to-goodness question whether the president United States is a Manchurian Candidate. Dear God the times we live in.

I'm sure the Trumpists will claim (if they haven't already) that this is yet more proof of a Deep State conspiracy against Trump.

I think we've already passed that and are already heading into "sure he was a Russian agent, but that's not illegal" territory.

It's pretty unlikely, IMO. I doubt that there will be actual treason charges, and that would be the charge that would come with that sentence.

Even the Rosenbergs were only charged with espionage. Also, by the time any death penalty could be applied, Trump would probably be dead.

"Treason" isn't on the cards no matter what as the US isn't at war with Russia. (Same thing with the Rosenbergs, actually)
