One possibility - albeit not a likely one in my opinion - is that he is helping expose Russian agents working in the U.S. such as Maria Butina. I don't think such help would have to be redacted to this extent, but I'm not super familiar with what tends to get redacted in these kinds of filings.

Mike Flynn could face consequences: probation, a fine, his passport, and a loss of military rank. But if he is the most credible person under investigation, then I can only imagine what he has dealt to Robert Mueller. If the Mueller report is enough of a bombshell, don't discount 70-75% of the Senate being behind impeachment, especially if Mike Pence will become president. Look at how fast clown Eric Greitens was impeached by the Missouri Republican led legislature.
