Are we sure we cannot get a budget done in January? I'd be worried if we have to work on a budget when the presidential election is ongoing and that would be detracting everyone's focus from the work we have to do here.

Hence why it is worded as it is, "or until a budget resolution is adopted".


There is nothing here that requires it take until February 28th, it is just set that way to ensure that we have the time in case we need it.

The most glaring cause for concern regarding January is that historically Congress between Christmas and New Years is absolutely horrendous activity wise.

In terms of a formal advocacy, I would say this is meant to be a safety net of sorts. Our objective should be to proceed with the adoption of a budget, an actual budget ASAP, but with the reality of the holiday season and the likelihood based on that history of stuff being difficult to pass in that time, it would in my opinion be irresponsible to wait and see and then find out we do not have time to pass a budget and then whoops, we cannot pass a CR either in time because no one is paying attention.

This way if we can do it by January we will, and if we cannot our obligations to our troops, seniors and the like are still being met.
