Which U.S. coastline has the best beaches?

I have to vote pretty resoundingly for the Gulf Coast, specifically the "Forgotten Coast" of Florida around Cape San Blas and St. George Island.  Unfortunately, this area has pretty devastated by Hurricane Michael earlier this year.

All the beaches I've been to on the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts had rock-hard, grey sand and were too cold.

I've only ever been to the Atlantic beaches in Florida in the US, so I don't know. At anyrate those Floridian beaches were very nice, not sure that would be the case further North though.

Not for swimming or surfing, but New England's coastline is beautiful.  For a good BEACH beach, I would imagine nothing up in the Northeast except in late summer because that's when the water's at its warmest.  There's also a lot of stuff in the ocean up here - and of course Jaws, Jaws II, Jaws III, etc. - Flagler Beach in Northern Florida looked very lovely but I only walked alongside it.

The Gulf Beaches in Florida are much, much better. From Pensacola all the way down to Sarasota are some of the best beaches in the world.

In my experience the beaches of Oahu are much too crowded and it still doesn't have the soft, white Caribbean-like sand you can only get on the Gulf Coast.

This is objectively the correct answer. Of the others provided (it's unfair to include Hawaii,) the Gulf Coast.

It's not the third coast, it's the North Coast. It's the only coast I've been to besides the Baltimore Inner Harbor because I'm too poor to travel, but I doubt it's home to the best beaches.

I don't like Florida, but this is the truth.  I spent a couple of years stationed at Tyndall AFB/Panama City and those beaches were epic.  Soft, white sand, nice clear water and on base, no people.

Florida beaches on the Gulf are terrific, and much better than the Atlantic side.  Never been to Hawaii, though, so I can't say if those are better.

Atlantic south of Jersey and the gulf are the best. Nice warm water. The pacific is cold down to the border

I strongly disagree. To me, a good Beach isn't just about sand. It needs dramatic topography, ideally that which breaks up th monotonous, flat ocean, and waves you can surf on. You can't beat Santa Barbara-Laguna Beach or Hawaii for that. Beaches like Florida's Gulf Coast or the Bahamas are just boring and not that pretty, IMO.

The Left Coast

Besides Alaska, which suffers from the opposite side, the other coasts are simply too warm [or in the case of Texas, too disgustingly green].

A good beach needs the water to be cooler than the sand, by a lot.

I've never experienced water hotter than the sand.
