Could someone who's normally a Democrat but blamed Carter for stagflation and Iran vote this way?

A family farmer - probably from Iowa, though the Dakotas are also a strong possibility- who reacts to the first-wave of the 80s farm crisis.

Also, a voter from Denver County, Colorado. Reagan won Denver County in 1980, thanks in part to Anderson, but it flipped to Mondale in 1984, even though Reagan got over 60% of the vote in Colorado, the last presidential candidate from either party to win the state by a double-digit margin.

My understanding is a lot of Jews voted for Reagan in 1980 due to unhappiness with Jimmy Carter's foreign policy but then returned to the Democrats in 1984. I'll verify that to be sure.

The question is why he or she didn't vote for John Anderson? A tactical Reagan vote to make sure he wins and ousts Carter?

A small business owner who was smart enough to realize that the Reagan team's economics to empower Corporate America were bad.

Could be that they were afraid Anderson would take away more votes from Reagan than Carter .

In the South and North East Urban areas I would say Anderson took more votes from Carter but in the Suburbs Anderson probably took more votes from Reagan . So I would say it depends on the county
