This legislation is based on rl legislation by Senators Doug Jones and Ted Cruz. This will help remedy the tragic lack if resolution to many violent crimes committed against African-Americans during the era of the civil rights movement. This crucial bill would release information on cold cases from the civil rights era, with the hope that additional sunlight and public interest will bring revelation, justice, and closure where these things have long been lacking. Too many records on these 'cold cases' sit locked away in vaults and files, inaccessible to the public and denying closure to the victims. This creates a clear and reasonable process whereby these records can be accessed and justice can finally occur, and has been carefully written to ensure it is done properly to avoid the risk of causing additional harm. As the rl Senate unanimously passed such legislation, I hope this Senate can do the same. I welcome any questions you may have on this legislation.

Just so that the matter is noted and since Lumine has not yet noticed this, I would point out in his stead that this would likely fall into the category of bills containing instructions for cabinet members that will likely never be implemented.

On the other hand, this could lead to the simulation of court cases via the GM, which could be an interesting road to traverse, but I worry the number of moving parts and the involvement of so many playable positions will have the effect of precluding successful implementation.

Yeah, except a lot of that from bills just copy/pasted from irl without actually being debated and crafted by an Atlasian deliberative body.

I do try not to meddle unless necessary since I'm not a Senator, but yes, this does seem to fall into the category of bills which draw too much from RL without that much regard for gameplay, even if this bill does significantly improve on past efforts - as it appears not to actually mandate the Archivist. It also mandates a lot of the office of the Attorney General, an office vacated just recently and with a questionable history in terms of performance lately.

I won't say whether the Senate should or should not pass this considering the issue is sensitive and further action on Civil Rights and its history is an important issue to talk about, but I have to wonder how useful is to copy or replicate RL legislation that isn't exactly workable in terms of Atlasian gameplay.

Well I don't expect actual players to do most of the stuff in here but I can look at ways to word it if it would have unfortunate ramifications if kept as is.

I have an amendment that may settle this, I am adding a clause to section 10. Thoughts?

While this was slowed some because of in game mechanics and like matters, I am hopeful that we are on the right track and certainly there is a lot here that is good and should make it into law. There are a lot of these cases and it is beyond time that we try and find some answers and preferably while some relatives still are alive, though in many cases that would most likely be children or siblings by this point as opposed to parents. Even so and while the chances of each and everyone of these being resolved is rather small, it is imperative that we take this step and bring closure where such can be obtained. I strongly urge my fellow Senators to support this legislation.
