In 1988, Smilin’ Ralph gets creamed, but if you want a legitimate mashup, have Nixon select Bush (then the RNC chair) to replace Agnew instead of Ford, and have Ralph take the southern and western delegates in the primaries. Then, the 1976 election can be a competitive mashup between Bush and Yarborough.
