This treaty confirms Atlasia's intent to recognize Japan's claims to the Senkaku Islands as legitimate and to defend them against aggression. It is one of several treaties designed to make our allies comfortable with at long last ending the war in the Pacific under the present circumstances.

Esteemed Senators,

Seconding the opening statement by the President Pro-Tempore, the three treaties I recently introduced were negotiated with Japan and the Philippines in the process of bringing the war in Korea to an end and ensuring that all of our allies were on board with that process and reassured of our intentions and committments.

Just as it is very important to win the peace - and these treaties are a part of that -, it is also crucial to secure it for a long time to come, and for our committment to our allies in the region to be credible, to deter any possible future aggression, and to prevent another war, it is necessary for us to make it clear that we will stand besides them and defend territory owned or rightfully claimed by both democratic, responsible and long-standing allies.

I strongly urge the Senate to ratify these treaties - or amendments to a treaty - as soon as possible, and will be happy to answer public or private answers (depending on the level of classified info) on this matter.

No comments at all?

While I expected some debate, since there appears to be none, let's get these passed.

I move to suspend the 72 hour rule and begin a final vote.

24 hours to object.

A final vote is now open; Senators, please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

AYE

I have been hesitant to comment much on these treaties for the simple fact that being privy to inside information as it pertains to the negotiations and such, I worried, especially after my experience as President that any accidental more or less intentional comments could in fact harm the situation and get in the way of ending the conflict.

That being said during my time as President one of the many objectives was to bring the allies to the table and satisfy their concerns in a way that ensures that they are also on board with the peace agreements while at the same time avoiding unrealistic demands that could jeopardize the success of the peace process with China. Therefore, I am happy to support this in the Senate.
