I received an email that there is a beta version of DRA that is supposed to eliminate the browser and system dependencies of the old version,

DRA 2020

I tried it with Firefox, but did California and it was really sluggish. Sometimes when I have a lot of tabs open, it appears that Firefox will thrash. So I will try again later, or perhaps use a different browser.

It appears to be working on Chrome very well. I really like the new features Dave has brought out, such as the Analysis section, and the ability to colour by county. I should finally be able to do New York without the browser slowing!

I tried it on Chrome and it appears to be working fine. However, there does appear to be some "lag" compared to the old version in terms of coloring districts and/or response to clicks.

The derivation doesn't make sense to me -- why is an empty district 0?

EDIT: Apparently this is only happening with DC. There's also something wrong with the Alaska data: with 2 districts, I got deviations of 1,842 and 24,781 which shouldn't be possible

Did he remove the ability to select large swathes by pressing z?

Does anyone have a list of the states with 2016 Presidential data? I know PA does but I'd rather not test every state to check

EDIT: So does MI

It doesn't look like you're able to renumber districts from what I can tell.

There's some problems with gaps in the coloring if you disable the precinct/block group lines.

On the other hand, the sharing function is nice.

There doesn't seem to be a function for positioning or editing the district labels just yet. The latter is a nicety, but the former is a necessity if you have U-shaped district.

Here's a quick and dirty Congressional map made using some non-partisan heuristics based on county size with the seven largest counties being the staring points.

http://dra.indirect.cc/join/55db0c2b-dddc-4f41-882d-15b5519a6034

Clyburn probably wouldn't be happy with my map as he conceivably could suffer a primary challenge if he messes up, but the Richland-based district is safe D and the Horry- and Charleston-based districts are swing districts that the Dems might have won both this year.

i like the analysis tool
but if all we have is either 2010 or 2016 data it doesn't seem v useful currently regarding 2020 maps...

I threw together a Democratic gerrymander of FL-02

Its 58-41 Obama in 2008.

Done by connecting Gadsden/Leon to Alachua.

I hope it incorporates the PVIs from DRA 2.0/2.2 soon!

Not going to be functionally possible unless they load up a separate national database of shapefiles for each election; thousands of precinct boundaries change between each election on a national level.

It seems to get glitchy the longer you use it. I kept having the currently drawn district erased when I let go of the mouse and it got worse and more frequent as I used it.

I was doing a Cube Root Rule Massachusetts and by the time I got to Essex, I had to throw in the towel.

It's great until you inadvertently lose the last 15 minutes of your work and can't retrieve it.

There are some issues with the Partisan data. PA is missing about 150,000 Clinton votes.

Which ones have 2016 Pres data? I've counted MI and PA so far.

Love the autosave feature, now I can actually finish Texas and California maps. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Yes, after I complained above it turned out my data had been auto saved and was present when I returned to the app.

Is it just me or is DRA 2020 a lot slower than the older versions? I guess it's less optimized?

Edit: Apparently now it's just as fast (or even faster!) it's just that it crashes very often. Thankfully it has autosave

also PA precints miss a lot of Obama precints. For example all of rural PA is red. It looks more like Clinton's than Obamas map. Like obama barely lost greene county but all the precints are dark red.

It is actually the Clinton map if you're using block groups.
