Had Robert Francis Kennedy not been assassinated and won the Democratic nomination in 1968, who would he have selelcted as his running mate?

Tbh couldn't tell you who he'd end up picking had he lived & won the nomination, even though much would've depended on his choice. Though Humphrey's choice, Ed Muskie, might not have been Kennedy's, since both were New Englanders. And Humphrey, the logical unity choice, might not have even agreed to run.

I liked Jimmy Carter in the TL of President Johnson (the poster). But 1968 is too early, he was just a state senator that year. A southerner would have been a ticket balancer, maybe George Smarthers, Terry Sandford or Albert Brewer. Stuart Symington is another name I think about.

George McGovern if you're thinking of who thinks the most like RFK. George Smathers or Fred Harris would be his best bet to win. I don't know if RFK would've won though. Johnson's policies were unpopular at the time and even though RFK and LBJ disagreed, RFK would still be associated with LBJ. Nixon had it in the bag.

Against Nixon still? Probably Pat Brown. Would give a really good chance of winning California

Nah, the dude lost big against Reagan in 1966. Would only make sense if he won that year. RFK needs a Southerner, who is more moderate but not still liberal enough.
