The ad's are ok.  I think they could have done a better job, but at least they get the point across...

Reform Ohio Now also has a major 120 Hour GOTV plan in place:

Joe and all other Ohio residents.  What is your opinion of the initiatives?  Do you plan on voting?  If so, how will you vote?

Meh, these ads don't really tell us anything new.  I love in the first ad when she says, "and will cause more Taft".  Huh?  The second ad is borderline pathetic, but reiterates their message anyway, I guess.

For the record, I plan to vote No to Issue 2, and Yes to 4 & 5, and am undecided on 3.  Issue 2 opens up to voter fraud, and more potential corruption as a result.  4 and 5 are an excellent step forward, IMO.

By the way, Issue 2 introduces voting by mail; Issue 3 limits PAC contributions; Issue 4 puts an independent commission in charge of redistricting; Issue 5 puts a bipartisan group in charge of elections, instead of the Sec of State.

Issue 1 was the gay marriage amendment that passed last year.

As of right now, I plan on voting for issues 4 and 5 but against 1, 2, and 3. I may change it later.

The ones I support deal with realigning the districts and reforming elections. One of the ones I don't support as of now is the one regarding loans to businesses; can't remember the others off the top of my head. Like I say, I'll do more research and may vote for all 5 just to piss off the legislature.

Uh, Issue 1 already passed with 62% of the vote this time last year, much to my general disappointment.

(I mean come on!  You know something is wrong when even Cuyahoga passes it! Angry )

The ones I support deal with realigning the districts and reforming elections.

I can't tell you just how much I want those two to pass.

I wonder how many other OH Democrats are still planning to vote 'No' to Issue 1 next year?  I have some bad news for you guys.

I'd vote yes on all four.

Issue 2 is important, because of all the voter suppression in the 2004 race. Oregon uses mail-in ballots and supposedly they have some of the smoothest elections and least amount of complaints of any state in the country. I definitely hope that Issue 2 (as well as the other three) all pass.

Surely you have heard about how there were very few voting machines in the urban areas/college towns and people had to wait up to 10 hours to vote?  This has been pretty well documented.

That's irrelevant to Issue 2, and more relevant to Issue 5.

I think it's relevant to both. Letting people mail their ballots will help thwart any voter suppression attempts.

Any situation where a vote passes through several hands from voter to ballot box is just asking for fraud.  Not to mention that anti-voter intimidation laws don't apply here either.  Organized voter suppression attempts will not only still apply if Issue 2 is passed, but will most likely get much worse.

I think you make a good point, Joe and I could definitely understand why you'd want to vote against this.

I just know that mail-in ballots have worked very well in the state or Oregon and they haven't had any problems with it.

But I definitely share your view that Issue 5 passing would alleviate many of the problems.

Uh... unlike in California where each proposition is given a unique number, your ballot initiatives seem to start at #1 with each election cycle...

There is, indeed, a State Issue 1 on the ballot Nov. 8 and it seems to be a dubious and complicated bond measure designed "to create jobs and stimulate economic growth."

Hmm, it appears you're right.  It really shows just how much attention I've been paying to these issues over the last few days. Wink

Oh for crying out loud.  The only ones I care enough about to pass are currently failing, and the one I want to fail is winning by a mile.  This state pisses me off sometimes.

What do you expect, living in a state that elected a governor who makes Gray Davis look wildly popular?

The only one I care about is 4. It seems at the very least all non-hardcore Republicans should support this. I wonder why it's trailing so badly.

Are those maps for real? They may be competitive, but they look just as horribly gerrymandered as the old Georgia maps from 2002 did.  Say what you will about Ohio's current map, but many of those districts are fairly compact.

The 2nd one looks like a straw man.
