Who would run in 1992? Would the Democrats look for a "moral" candidate?

One thing's for sure: we wouldn't have to hear more of "Gart would've won" crap.

Yeah, tbh I don't even think Hart would have done that much better than Dukakis even without his scandal, he might have taken Colorado and New Mexico due to the "favorite son" factor, and Montana and just maybe California (and even for the latter I'm not convinced) due to the fact he would have been a better fit for the Western states that were open to voting for a Democrat at all, but I think he would have been a worse fit for the Eastern half of the country than Dukakis was, I think East of the Mississippi the only state he would have won that Dukakis lost would have been Maryland (Dukakis lost it because of Willie Horton).

And of course with the scandal he probably would have done even worse than Dukakis.

Maybe Dukakis may run again or Cuomo would have ran because Liberalism wouldn't of been bashed by Bush as much

I agree with this, I think Cuomo ends up being the nominee in either 1992 or 1996 in this case.

I have never understood why Mario Cuomo never ran for President.  I suspect he was afraid of some skeleton in the closet, but it's 2019 and nothing like that has ever been tangibly revealed.

Well there were only two opportunities for him to realistically run :

1988 and 1992

In 1992 he didnt run because Bush was viewed as unbeatable so he probably didnt run so his chances for 96 wouldnt get ruined

1988 Im not sure but he really only had two chances of running

The percieved "Neoliberal" pair of Hart/clinton fails in '88, leading to a populist response in '92. Cuomo and some dixie/midwestern populist liberal perhaps.

The one definite outcome I think is that Democrats look to nominate a liberal. Likely Cuomo, if he were to run.

Democrats would look for a candidate who wouldn't get into any Monkey Business.

We could have been saved from the New Democrats.
