I was looking up some old results of past elections on Wiki and found some incredible numbers:

FDR won 98% of the vote in South Carolina in 1936?!?!

With multiple counties giving him 100% of the vote?.... that can’t be right, can it?

That got me thinking, what are the best performances (in the modern or semi-modern ie 1948-on)  in a single state by a Presidential canidate?

This was back when
 - Republicans were still seen as the invading Yankee army by most of the South
 - The only constituencies that would naturally vote Republican were systemically blocked from voting and registering to vote
 - The secret ballot functionally did not exist, so voting Republican might pique the interest of local government officials or the county sheriff

Strict voting laws and Jim Crow prevented African Americans and other Republican-leaning groups from voting. South Carolina and Mississippi were the worst offenders, but these practices were widespread throughout the South into the 1960s.

South Carolina general elections during the Solid South were frequently featuring just one candidate on the ballot. Just look at past gubernatorial and Senate GE (where only a fraction of primary voters bothered to show up, actually)
