A little late but I'll post my two cents lol.
I don't know much about the protests themselves, but the subsidy removal was indeed a big hit. Back in early 2016, it increased gas prices by 2000% in our town, but it was reversed after a protest action by the citizens here - the Patagonia has special gas subsidies that other regions of Argentina doesn't have.
Another big hit, especially for me, was a partial removal of the bus subsidies - since I go to school. Its around 20 pesos right now but could go to 50 without them. My mom is already looking into cutting the food we buy so we can save costs haha.
