In 1989, George H.W. Bush nominated Former Senator John Tower of Texas to be Secretary of Defense. The Senate rejected the nomination 53-47. Bush nominated Dick Cheney to replace him, and he was confirmed as Secretary of Defense.

What if the Senate didn't reject the nomination and Tower became Secretary of Defense. Would anything from the Bush administration change? What would've become of Cheney?

Cheney? Speaker of the House by 1995, with Gingrich not replacing him as the Whip in 1989.

I wonder what the dynamic would be between Clinton and Speaker Cheney.

Danforth, Powell, or Kasich becomes VP in 2000. Of those, I can only really see Kasich running in ‘08, and that’s not really a sure thing.
