For me, it would be either Costa Rica, Italy/Austria, or France.

My trips to Europe have been very similar so it was either:

My trip in winter 2015 where I visited my wife in school in Scotland and we got engaged during a long weekend sub-trip to Paris.

My trip in summer 2015 where we were in Scotland for my wife's graduation, took a sub-trip to visit her grandparents on the Italian coast, and also did a self tour including a couple night stay at a Benedictine abbey in northern Scotland.

My honeymoon in 2016/7 which included Christmas in Florence, meeting the Pope, and a snowy new year in Zurich.

Yakima/Rainier/Seattle 2016 or SF 2018. Giving the edge to the former.

I haven't had it yet. But if I had to choose out of the meager offerings from my past, Michigan 2008. Last time I've ever been to the beach in Traverse City.

Riviera Maya, Mexico, June 2015 - Charter flight, 5 star resort, was incredible.

Atlanta, Georgia, March 2014 - Was sort of an impromptu high school "senior trip" I went on with some of my friends during spring break of senior year. Love the atmosphere of Atlanta, loved the things to do there, best city I've ever been to.

Gulf Breeze, Florida, August 2013 - Went with a friend and their family to the beach near the end of summer that year, we stayed in a pretty nice beach house and had a lot of fun exploring around.

My long road trips are up there for best vacations and this post from the top of the 2017 thread has links to the threads for my major ones.

My road trip this year is divided into two segments - an eastern trip in Jun and a western trip in Aug. I leave this Fri on the eastern trip. Here's a map of my overnight destinations and updated travels between them. My usual travelogue will appear in mostly daily posts.

Red: overnight stay
Magenta: multiple night stay (including home)
Blue: intentional visit
Yellow: stop for a quilt shop
Cyan: stop for gas, food, etc.
Green: drive through

The analemma is the path of the Sun seen by an observer on the Earth taken at the same time on different days of the year. It looks like this.

The highlight of the trip will be a view of the total solar eclipse in ID. Given this year's connection to the Sun, and the general shape of the overnight stays, I thought of the analemma. For the record my previous road trip threads can be found here: 2015, 2011, 2008, and 2005. As always, I'm open to meet ups with other posters as time permits.

However, my vacation last year to HI needs to be on the list as I spent time on 5 islands over two weeks. Here are the reports from the Update thread.

Two years ago, my sister was studying in Heidelberg, Germany for the semester.  My dad had to stay home for work reasons at the last minute, but my mom and I went to visit her.  We stayed the first night in Heidelberg, second night in Rothenburg, third and fourth nights in Munich and the remaining three nights in Prague.  That trip was probably my favorite ever, though a trip two summers before that to Paris (four nights) and Edinburgh (three nights) is a close second.  If we are talking pure "vacation" (not taking into account world experience), I can't top St. Barths in the Caribbean.

Going to the San Juan Islands (I think we stayed there about two to three weeks) in the summer of 1994 while we as a family moved back to the United States after ten years living overseas in East and Southeast Asia.  It helped that my grandparents (well, my grandmother) were still living there when we stopped by on our way ultimately to DC.
