Sink Debate Responses

1. First of all, thank you John and Wolf for hosting this debate. I hope tonight we can talk about how we will support our candidates on the top of the ticket, and our views as well. First off, I'm not a Socialist. I'm a Capitalist who believes that not everything belongs to the Top 1% and PACs. I'm a Proud Floridian Governor who is ready to stand up for Small Business, and Workers, but isn't afraid to stand up to Big Corporations. This campaign, and I, aren't racing to the left, and we aren't going to.

2. I believe that it is important that we have a Woman on the ticket of Presidential Campaigns, and I believe that others on different campaigns believe that is a bad principle to follow. I'm proud to be on the ticket with Senator Brown, and I believe a Woman's Voice in Washington is going to make so much change for this country, and how Washington works.

3. I respect Marco Rubio's determination to lead Floridians and Americans in a message of a New Kind of Conservative. I also respect Gary Johnson's Sense of Humor that he has to keep the campaign uppity, it does so much for everyone on every campaign, and allows us to not be consumed by the darkness of a campaign.

Thank you so much Wolf and John, and to every American citizen out there, I promise you this. Sherrod Brown is the candidate who is going to put the interests of Workers, Unions, and Americans at the front line of the White House Agenda. Thank you!

Phil Scott for President

Governor Scott concludes his campaign with a rally in Richmond and Miami with Senator Rubio, the concluding rally is a filled to capacity speech with President Romney, Vice President Ryan, and Senator Rubio in Charlotte North Carolina.

The Phil Scott election night event is quite unorthodox. The event is in a grassy plain near wooded areas around Burlington. A large stage with an extensive speaker system and two large jumbotrons is the focal point of the party. Around the event is a series of porta potties and food trucks. Close to the stage there is two arrays of 50 by 50 chairs. Outside of that there are lots of picnic blankets and lawn chairs being set up by supporters. Phil Scott is in a Burlington Hotel huddled with his campaign team, Senator Rubio, and many staffers. All under the slowly setting Vermont Sun.

Across the country, volunteers mobilize to get people to the polls, precinct captains keep count of supporters, and county directors make sure they're hitting the numbers they need to win the White House. It's been almost two years, and finally. We are at the ending....

The Final Schedule.

With the final days of the campaign rolling in, Sherrod Brown pivoted to crucial GOTV campaigning reminding voters of his core message: rebuilding America, it's middle class, and our communities. Brown hoped an especially strong ending campaign can put him over the line in this extremely close election. Much of his GOTV effort focused on maintaining lean D states in the midwest and cracking into the crucial swing state of North Carolina, he used his superior grassroots (as evidenced by his early campaign money bomb) to organize a much stronger GOTV effort to end the campaign.

November 1st: Brown traveled to Ohio and Iowa to meet with the grassroots and coordinate GOTV efforts across the state, holding conference calls with all major state and local leaders. The campaign hopes to flip typically Republican small towns across the mid west with Sherrod Brown as the nominee, and surrogates like Tom Harkin, Tim Ryan, and Bill Clinton travel across these states to ensure those goals are met. He meets with key grassroots organizers and GOTV organizers, holding massive voter registration drives to bring out the base and targeting voters with a history of voting to get a reliable turnout edge over Scott. He ended the day with a massive GOTV rally in Des Moines, Iowa, bidding to voters how crucial it is that we "rebuild our communities, rebuild our middle class," saying that they could make the difference in such a crucial election.

November 2nd: Senator Brown went to North Carolina to carry the GOTV effort over there, where much of it was being used to bring out African-American voters, especially those religious. He carried out conference calls with all North Carolina campaign leaders, before shifting his focus to GOTV drives across the state. He reinvigorated his message on poverty and working for working families, especially bringing up his strong religious convictions and commitment to Jesus's message against poverty, hoping to cut into more of the religious social conservative vote. As well, he hoped to make a strong final bid to working class voters as he pitched his fair trade agenda in a state devastated with huge losses in it's carpentry industry. He ended the day with a GOTV rally in Charlotte doubling down on the campaign message they had pushed across the state that day.

November 3rd: Brown put his final election day focus into North Carolina, holding GOTV rallies and drives across the state to put him over the line in this swing state. In the morning, he called county directors in the state and across the country to discuss the status of how crucial demographics were voting. This was the end of the campaign. Finally, after 2 years of campaigning, despite initial tough odds, Brown finally made it to the finish line.

When polls closed, Brown used all the social media and grassroots efforts he could to keep voters in line across the country. Much of the campaign's results relied on if people stuck to voting. Brown traveled to a venue to watch the results come in.

Sherrod Brown 2020
Rebuild America.

General Ad #5: Clear.

Quote
"This election to me is about who's got the best plan to lead us in the best direction for our economy, how we're going to build robust, strong economic growth and raise paychecks for working families. We need fresh vision to build a strong middle class, and we have a clear choice for that vision. Sherrod Brown's plan is a middle class first message, build our economy from the middle ground, invest in infrastructure and cut taxes for middle income families. That's what we did when I was President. That's the direction that we need to build"

Sherrod Brown 2020
Rebuild America.

General Ad #7: Closing Argument.

Narrated by excerpt from Sherrod Brown speech: "Our message is built on one simple vision: Rebuild America. To understand how we can do that, we have to realize who built America to begin with; and we built it together. We built railroads and highways, the Hoover Dam, the Golden Gate Bridge together.  We instituted a minimum wage and worker safety laws together.  Together, we touched the surface of the moon, unlocked the mystery of the atom, connected the world through our own science and imagination. But for too many Americans today, hard work doesn't play like it should, by stagnant wages, by rising medical bills, by the ridiculous cost of life-saving drugs. Now is the time for millions of middle class working families to come together to revive that dream, to revitalize American democracy, to end the collapse of the American middle class and to make certain that our children and grandchildren are able to enjoy a quality of life that brings them health, prosperity, security and joy – and that once again makes the United States the leader in the world in economic prosperity for it's middle class."

Well, all, it's been an exciting ride, but this is where it comes to a close. Thanks to all of you for participating in this game, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon. That said, it's time for...

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. I'm Wolf Blitzer.

Cooper: I'm Anderson Cooper.

King: I'm John King.

Hickenlooper: And I'm John Hickenlooper.

Blitzer: And we will be taking you into the results of this, the closest election we've seen in eight years, which, ironically, makes it one of the closest elections in American history. That said, let's get down to it. I will be making state calls, Anderson will be speaking with our correspondents all across the country, John King will be showing us the unfinished results on the Magic Wall, and John Hickenlooper will be bringing us the results from the senatorial and House races tonight. Get ready, because this is the real...

All: Election Night in America!

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 7 PM in the east, and we can make our first projections in the race for the White House.

PHIL SCOTT WINS INDIANA

PHIL SCOTT WINS KENTUCKY

PHIL SCOTT WINS SOUTH CAROLINA

PHIL SCOTT WINS GEORGIA

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. They give Phil Scott the lead with 44 electoral votes to Sherrod Brown's none. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing in the Senate races in the closed states?

Hickenlooper: Well, just to remind our viewers at home, the Democrats need four pickups to take the Senate if Senator Brown is elected, and five if it's Governor Scott tonight. They're also looking to get nine pickups in the House, and many believe that race could come down to presidential coattails.

That said, we're starting off with a balance of 33 Republicans to 33 Democrats, as we have 21 GOP seats and 13 Dem seats up tonight. Be sure to keep an eye on the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, and New Hampshire, as they're considered the tightest battlegrounds of this election. However, in terms of a few other seats, we have a projection to make:

LINDSEY GRAHAM WINS IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Hickenlooper: However, we can't make any more calls at this time. This makes the balance 34 to 33 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: Well, the presidential race in Vermont is definitely the most out-of-left-field thing we've seen in a while; any other Republican would have seen this as a Safe D state not worth pursuing, but here we are, unable to call it, and with Scott having a very strong early lead. Virginia, meanwhile, is much more of a perennial swing, and a bigger one, and we're very unsure of how it will go; both states were rated as tossups by all the prognosticators, we here at CNN included. However, here are the results in those two states right now:

Vermont
Phil Scott - 53.28%
Sherrod Brown - 43.12%
Rob Manfred - 3.45%
Howie Hawkins - 0.15%
1% reporting

Virginia
Sherrod Brown - 49.76%
Phil Scott - 45.52%
Rob Manfred - 4.00%
Adam Kokesh - 0.55%
Howie Hawkins - 0.17%
1% reporting

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 7:30 PM in the east, and we can make another projection in the race for the White House.

PHIL SCOTT WINS WEST VIRGINIA

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. They give Phil Scott the lead with 49 electoral votes to Sherrod Brown's none. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing in the Senate races in the closed states?

Hickenlooper: Well, North Carolina is expected to have a very competitive race as Representative Ted Budd from the 13th district challenges Senator Hagan. Obviously, we can't make a call there. However, in terms of a few other seats, we have some projections to make:

SHELLEY MOORE CAPITO WINS IN WEST VIRGINIA

MITCH MCCONNELL WINS IN KENTUCKY

DAVID PERDUE WINS IN GEORGIA

Hickenlooper: And those are all the calls we can make right now. This makes the balance 37 to 33 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: Well, the presidential race in Ohio currently favors Senator Brown, according to most pundits. Not really surprising, considering his roots in the state and populist message; the state everyone's looking at, though, is North Carolina. It received basically no attention until last week, when both candidates were there, making sure their messages were heard in the only state left blank on RCP's no tossups map.

Vermont
Phil Scott - 50.28%
Sherrod Brown - 45.82%
Rob Manfred - 3.65%
Howie Hawkins - 0.25%
10% reporting

Virginia
Sherrod Brown - 48.76%
Phil Scott - 46.52%
Rob Manfred - 4.03%
Adam Kokesh - 0.52%
Howie Hawkins - 0.17%
10% reporting

Ohio
Sherrod Brown - 54.61%
Phil Scott - 40.04%
Rob Manfred - 4.51%
Adam Kokesh - 0.60%
Howie Hawkins - 0.24%
1% reporting

North Carolina

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 8 PM in the east, and we can make more projections in the race for the White House.

PHIL SCOTT WINS NEW HAMPSHIRE

SHERROD BROWN WINS MASSACHUSETTS

SHERROD BROWN WINS RHODE ISLAND

SHERROD BROWN WINS CONNECTICUT

SHERROD BROWN WINS NEW JERSEY

SHERROD BROWN WINS DELAWARE

SHERROD BROWN WINS MARYLAND

SHERROD BROWN WINS THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

PHIL SCOTT WINS ALABAMA

PHIL SCOTT WINS MISSISSIPPI

PHIL SCOTT WINS TENNESSEE

SHERROD BROWN WINS ILLINOIS

PHIL SCOTT WINS MISSOURI

PHIL SCOTT WINS OKLAHOMA

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. They give Phil Scott the lead with 96 electoral votes to Sherrod Brown's 72. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing in the Senate races in the closed states?

Hickenlooper: Well, we've got a lot of states in now, including the major battleground of New Hampshire, where Jeanne Shaheen is one of the most vulnerable senators running for re-election. In neighboring states and others, however, we have many a projection to make.

SUSAN COLLINS WINS IN MAINE

ED MARKEY WINS IN MASSACHUSETTS

JACK REED WINS IN RHODE ISLAND

CORY BOOKER WINS IN NEW JERSEY

CHRIS COONS WINS IN DELAWARE

BRADLEY BYRNE WINS IN ALABAMA

BILL HASLAM WINS IN TENNESSEE

DICK DURBIN WINS IN ILLINOIS

JIM INHOFE WINS IN OKLAHOMA

Hickenlooper: And those are all the calls we can make right now. This makes the balance 41 to 38 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: Well, the presidential race in Pennsylvania isn't expected to be out long, as Senator Brown has been favored there for the entire cycle. Maine and Florida are looking a bit rougher for the Senator, as even the generally strongly blue first district of Maine is teetering on the edge of tossup territory tonight. Florida another bit of a disappointment tonight, as Brown chose Governor Sink as his vice president at least partly, according to some sources, because she was from Florida. However, if what we see right now holds, Senator Rubio was more than enough to counter that.

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 8:30 PM in the east, and we can make more projections in the race for the White House.

PHIL SCOTT WINS ARKANSAS

SHERROD BROWN WINS PENNSYLVANIA

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. They give Phil Scott the lead with 102 electoral votes to Sherrod Brown's 92. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing in the Senate races in the closed states?

Hickenlooper: Arkansas is the only state with polls closing right now, and it's an easy win for Senator Tom Cotton tonight. Also, by a much safer margin than two years ago, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith will be re-elected.

TOM COTTON WINS IN ARKANSAS

CINDY HYDE-SMITH WINS IN MISSISSIPPI

Hickenlooper: And those are all the calls we can make right now. This makes the balance 43 to 38 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: I'd like to draw our viewers' attention to North Carolina for a moment, as we can see that Governor Scott and Senator Brown are now separated by 17 votes in that state. Meanwhile, in other states, leads seem to be solidifying: Ohio, Maine, and Florida are all looking good for the leaders there. However, with more than half the vote out in all these states except Vermont, it's impossible to say for certain how they'll fall.

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 8:47 PM in the east, and we can make another projection in the race for the White House.

SHERROD BROWN WINS OHIO

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. They give Sherrod Brown his first lead of the night, 110 to 102. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing in the Senate races in the closed states?

Hickenlooper: Well, we can finally call the state of Virginia. A hard-fought race by Representative Scott Taylor will not quite prove enough to unseat Senator Mark Warner, who has won re-election.

MARK WARNER WINS IN VIRGINIA

Hickenlooper: And those are all the calls we can make right now. This makes the balance 43 to 39 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: Well, interestingly, Governor Scott and Senator Brown have traded Virginia and North Carolina, it would seem, as Governor Scott racks up suburban votes and rural areas come in far stronger than they usually do for the Democrat. Florida also widening as Maine tightens a bit, and Governor Scott continues to increase his chances of being the first Republican to win his home state in a presidential race since 1988.

ELECTION NIGHT 2020

Blitzer: Good evening. It is now 9 PM in the east, and we can make more projections in the race for the White House.

SHERROD BROWN WINS NEW YORK

PHIL SCOTT WINS LOUISIANA

PHIL SCOTT WINS TEXAS

PHIL SCOTT WINS KANSAS

PHIL SCOTT WINS NEBRASKA

PHIL SCOTT WINS SOUTH DAKOTA

PHIL SCOTT WINS NORTH DAKOTA

PHIL SCOTT WINS ARIZONA

PHIL SCOTT WINS WYOMING

Blitzer: And those are all the state calls for right now. Governor Scott retakes his lead with those calls, 179 to 139. John Hickenlooper, what are we seeing out of the Senate races in those states.

Hickenlooper: Well, we've got two of our four tossup races in play now and, obviously, we can't call either of them. However, we can make a number of calls in other races.

BEN SASSE WINS IN NEBRASKA

MIKE ROUNDS WINS IN SOUTH DAKOTA

LIZ CHENEY WINS IN WYOMING

Hickenlooper: And those are all the calls we can make right now. This makes the balance 46 to 39 as we wait for more seats to come in.

Blitzer: John King, what are your thoughts on what's coming out of the uncalled states right now?

King: Well, Colorado and Minnesota aren't expected to be out long, but New Mexico's the last state we really view as a tossup. Now, it's small, only 5 electoral votes, but in a race this close, who knows? It might be the key to victory. Also, a lot of races widening, indicating this list may be a lot shorter in a little bit.
