Former US Senator Rick Santorum (PA) Throws His Hat Into Presidential Contest


Earlier today, former Republican Senator Rick Santorum, of Pennsylvania, announced that he is running for President. In his announcement speech in Pittsburgh, Santorum cited "lack of morals and values" as one of the reasons he is running:

"Today in America, we seem to have forgotten that we were always a nation of morals, values, and law. Rampant illegal immigration, abortion, and endless wars are burdening our nation."

Santorum is seen as a favorite of the conservative branch of the Republican Party, and he knows it. He will be traveling to Iowa and South Carolina to build up excitement in those conservative, early contests.

After building up his campaign staff, Rick Santorum will fly to Iowa to begin campaigning ahead of the debate.

Rick Santorum's presidential campaign is expected to begin in just a few days. He will be campaigning vigorously across the Hawkeye State in an attempt to make up for recent drop of support in polls. The schedule for his campaign will be released shortly.

Opening Statement:

Thank you, Tucker and Megyn for moderating the debate, thank you to the University of South Carolina for allowing us to use their facilities tonight, and thank you to everyone for being here or tuning in from across this great land. It’s great to see so many people concerned about our politics and getting involved, because we need strong people who care to lead us forward. And that is what my campaign is about. Making sure we have strong leadership over the next few years to ensure that America goes in the right direction, makes the right choices, and creates a society where everyone has the ability to pursue the American Dream, and where Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is available to everyone.

Answer to Debate Question:

Well, as Secretary of Commerce, I have always strived to foster an environment in this country where jobs were opening and readily available, and where businesses could start and grow without having to worry about big government breathing down their backs all of the time. I consulted many business leaders and owners, I met with the employees, I heard many different reports from advisors and experts on the economy and business, I would put everything together into a report, and I would take my findings to the President. From there, he would make the decisions as to what we should do and where we should go. In this administration, we created thousands of jobs, we brought in revenue, and we pushed for tax decreases on businesses and workers. Were there some bad choices? Were there moments when we should have done one thing and we did the other? Of course there were, no one is perfect. But ultimately, those decisions were up to the President and his advisors, so to put the blame solely at my feet is somewhat irresponsible.

Closing Statement:

Tonight you heard us all give our pitch to you, the voters. You heard our stances on different policy, subjects, and accusations. And ultimately, it is up to you to decide which of us is worthy of being the party's nominee, and possibly even President of the United States. But it is important to choose someone who has the experience and the qualities needed to run this nation. I have over 30 years’ experience as an attorney, congressman, senator, consultant, and secretary. I have a passion for American ideals and institutions, and I believe everyone in this country deserves a fair shot at stepping up the ladder. We need a country where taxes are low, jobs are available, rights are preserved, neighborhoods are safe, and where everyone, born and unborn, is seen as equal under the law. This is my vision for America, and I hope you join me in seeing that vision through. Thank you, good night, and God Bless.

Today Rick Santorum released the following statement regarding the bombs sent to various Democratic officials and news outlets:

"These attempted acts of violence today are despicable, disgusting, cowardly, and simply un-American. Whoever is responsible for these bombs should be ashamed of themselves and turn themselves in immediately.

As a Republican, I am ashamed that such despicable actions were committed by one of our own. The Republican Party has no tolerance whatsoever for these kinds of hatred. My campaign condemns this ugly display with the strongest terms, and I would like to affirm that there is no room for this kind of thought process in our campaign. We are willing to co-operate in any way we can to ensure that the people or person responsible are put behind bars, and I would like to personally reach out to all of those targeted and apologize on behalf of all Republicans."

It's great to be in North Dakota with all of you, and it's good to be with you again, Tucker and Megyn. Over the past few months, I have traveled across dozens of states, meeting many different people and learning about their lives, their concerns, and their struggles. And I hear the same thing everywhere I go: America needs more opportunity, more freedom, more respect for one another. That is what my campaign is about. As I will outline in this debate, and throughout this election, I am running on a platform of pro-American conservatism that will provide jobs and prosperity for all of America.

Answer to Debate Question:

Well, I don't think the term "real Republican" is exclusionary at all. What we seem to forget is that many Americans, Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and more, support the same things and ultimately want what is best for our country. I believe in smaller government, trade deals that favor our workers and companies, protection of our Constitutional rights, supporting American agriculture, including the soybean farmers here in North Dakota, standing with our allies across the globe, protecting life, lowering debt, and more.

These aren't just Republican or conservative values, these are fundamental American values. These are values that are rooted in the American Revolution, values shared by the Founding Fathers, and shared by people all the way up to today. People across the political spectrum hold these values, and that is why I am running. I believe that I can and will be an effective president that represents all Americans, because these are American values.

Closing Statement:

I want to thank UND for having us here, and I want to thank all of you attending or listening in. This election, you are faced with a real opportunity. You have the chance to put in the White House someone who listens to you, believes in you, and works for you. Rick Santorum: In America, we have lived by the belief that "all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."



But in recent decades, liberal activist judges have legislated from the bench and decided that all men are not created equal, that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness aren't God-given rights.



Every year, millions of unborn Americans are killed in brutal abortion procedures, and a dis-proportionate amount of these victims are minorities.

RICK SANTORUM ANNOUNCES FINAL ENDORSEMENTS BEFORE IOWA CAUCUSES

With just a few days to go until the Iowa caucus, Rick Santorum's campaign is pleased to announce several big endorsements.

Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR,) David Perdue (R-GA,) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA,) have all gotten on board with our campaign:

"We strongly believe that as a party, we must nominate Rick Santorum. He is the only conservative, true Republican running for president, and he will bring our values and the values of millions of Americans to the White House. We must all work hard, especially in early states like Iowa, North Dakota, and closer to home, Texas and South Carolina."







Santorum is also being endorsed by the National Right to Life and Tea Party Patriots organizations. Both will be actively campaign in early voting states, including Iowa, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Texas.

RICK SANTORUM'S FINAL CAMPAIGN EFFORTS IN IOWA


In the last few days before the Iowa Caucus, Rick Santorum will be holding large rallies in Sioux City, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport.



He will also be meeting with campaign volunteers across the state to energize and help with the get out the vote efforts.



On Caucus night, he will speak on his own behalf at a caucusing site in West Des Moines, Iowa.
