Just like he did in 1992, billionaire Ross Perot took an important share of the popular vote in 1996, dividing the conservative vote and ensuring an almost 10 % margin re-election win for Bill Clinton.

What if Ross Perot didn't run in 1996? I think Clinton would still win due to a prosperous economy and to a time of peace, but how would the 1996 Electoral College results be different had Perot stepped aside?

I think without Perot Clinton might win Georgia and Dole might win Kentucky and just maybe Arizona, but I think otherwise the map stays the same. And I think Clinton would get up to 53 or 54% of the popular vote.

In each state, give half of Perot's votes to Clinton and half to Dole.

I think it would be 5 percent dole boost and 3 Clinton boost, so dole gets the states he lost by less than 1 percent

Exit polls indicated that without Perot, Clinton would have won the NPV by about 7 points. Clinton and Dole would each have picked off about 30% of Perot voters.
