I like even more after this. It is this kind of honesty that is lacking in the democratic party. Sure I disagree with her on some issues but she is not PC and she speaks her mind! That is refreshing from a democrat.

Hell no! People seem to be forgetting that Trump's insistence on his idiotic border wall is the cause of all of this. The Democrats are trying to compromise and reopen the government, or save negotiations on that issue for another time when the government is open, but no dice because Trump is too stubborn and egotistical to think of all the government workers being held hostage over his fantasies.

Haha. Right the democrats were in favor of a fence in 2006 and even as recent as 2010 2011. So now they are immoral for their positions right?

Personally, I'd rather just give Trump the $5 billion for the wall then have the government shutdown continue. But at the same time, Trump knew exactly what he was doing in trying to force Democrats to
make a concession unacceptable to their base. And if the wall was so important, Republicans should have used the reconciliation process during the 115th Congress to fund it. So my answer is, maybe Democrats share some blame, but Trump deserves the most blame.

Reality is more complex then that.

Dems are partially to blame for the shutdown in the same sense that Poland was partially to blame for the start of WW2.

The shutdown happened under a unified republican government, Trump and the GOP are completely at fault here, and Americans know it.

>2006
>Democrats can't do anything without Blue Dogs
>Blue Dogs have to appeal to what is now Trump's base
>fence and other smart border security protections
>no wall tho
>2016
>Trump elected after saying he's gonna build a massive wall and Mexico will pay for it
>Democrats become party of the suburbs
>2017
>New Congress sworn in, GOP has unified government control
>wall isn't an emergency
>confirm Gorsuch
>wall isn't an emergency
>try to repeal Obamacare
>wall isn't an emergency
>pass massive tax cuts for the wealthy
>wall isn't an emergency
>2018
>take away temporary DACA protections (this one's important later!)
>wall isn't an emergency
>looks like blue wave is forming maybe potentially
>wall isn't an emergency
>confirm Kavanaugh
>wall isn't an emergency
>Trump campaigns on anti-immigrant rhetoric
>Dems say no wall ever at all
>Dems gain 40 seats and win 10 million more votes
>wall IS an emergency
>senate votes 100-0 to keep the government open without wall funding
>now the wall is REALLY an emergency, and the government is shut down
2019
>Dems take over the House
>RADICAL DEMS DON'T WANT NATIONAL SECURITY
>Dems use GOP bill from December as bargaining chip, Trump says no
>here u can have these things I took away from you last year and nothing more
>ok what about 5.7 billion for border security but no wall?
>absolutely not, says orang man
>now longest shutdown ever, literally chaos

did i sum it up well enough? or do I need to go basic

EDIT: I forgot the part where he literally said he would take responsibility for the shutdown

Remember that Trump said that he would be proud to shutdown the government.

Don’t you forget that.

Speaking to Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in the Oval Office, Trump said on December 11, “I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

A unified Republican government? That was true before January 3, but it is not true now, since Congress is now divided.

Um, he isn’t wrong though. The shutdown started last Congress when the Republicans held both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

She could be a Republican plant whose only goal is to ensure that Individual-1 wins in 2020.

No- Funding the government is not a place for a policy debate.  It is Trump who is trying to use funding the government as a hostage for a policy stance.  Dem Presidents may have done it in the past- and it was wrong then.  Still wrong now- funding the government is not a tool or forum for a policy debate.

I don't think so. Yes, some prominent Republicans, for example Bannon, like her, and this is Gabbard's advantage as she is able to unite Americans on the bipartisan platform.
