Meanwhile, the Mexican government is still recognizing Maduro. Of course.

Probably the right decision.

Maduro is a corrupt crook who has zero legitimization.

U.S. Coups™: Overthrowing Latin American Governments since 1823

Except Maduro is no longer a democratically-elected leader, so even if it was a coup (which it is clearly not, especially with the military still backing Maduro), it would be different.

Hi. The resident Venezuelan here.

This is the first time I've been genuinely happy and excited about the political situation in my country in years. Everyone is going nuts. For the first time in forever, hope seems to be around the corner.

Please just pray that everything goes well for my country.

FF move from Trump and all the other world leaders who are supporting Guaidó!

Time to take out the trash. Maduro's days are hopefully numbered.

Venezuela is in a very dramatic situation and a very weak economy.

I've a friend who's gone in Venezuela. She works in a catholic mission. When she was asked about what to send to her, she answered toilet papers.

Hyperinflation is the worst economic condition for a country.

Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Paraguay also recognized Guaidó

Argentina and Ecuador also recognized Guaidó.

The question now is whether the military will still support Maduro. If they abandon him, he'll be gone soon. If some of them stay loyal to him, then a civil war seems likely.

Looks like a familiar map is starting to form when it comes on who is the legitimate leader of Venezuela:

Green: Support Guaido
Red: Support Maduro

I'd also like to chime in and say that this leftist also supports this. Sometimes people do the right things for the wrong reasons. Maduro is not a legitimate leader and giving nominal support to the opposition is totally within the acceptable range of US policy responses to the current situation. Hopefully Trump and the people around him know better than to do anything too rash.

I'd also like to note that I'm disappointed in AMLO, although I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything different. It will be interesting to see if his position evolves as the situation on the ground does.

Yes, support for Guaido ranges from the far-left to the far-right. Mexico's response to the Venezuela situation continues to disappoint. At some point, not saying anything in the name of "non-intervention" becomes de facto taking a side.

Venezuelan oil flooding the market in a few years time would be crippling to Russia/Middle East, etc

The US has already ruined their budgets for the past 5 years, i'd imagine a fully connected Venezuela would drive WTI down back to its lows in 2015 if demand doesnt pick up.

Well I can't say I feel confortable with the possibility of a proxy civil war next to my Country.

Carefully worded tweet from Venezuela's Minister of Defense. Says the Military won't accept an "imposed" President, but didn't say who the "imposed" President is. Says the Military will defend Venezuela's Constitution and sovereignty. I wouldn't rule out a military coup now.
