If a combination of Beto, Bernie, and or Castro is on the ticket, Texas is in play.

If not, I think they're safe.

What special appeal does Bernie have in Texas?

What?  Don't you remember how he dominated the primary?

Well he dominated the two counties that matter, Brazos and Travis!

Republicans can only lose Texas in 2020 if the Democratic candidate were winning in a landslide nationally -so are they suggesting we could see a Democratic landslide victory in 2020?

More like Republicans fear Trump could lose badly in 2020.

I dunno about future elections, but if in 2020 Trump is struggling to win TX, I've got bad news about his prospects in the other battleground states...

if he lose texas it's their fault not his. republicans in tx had 2 million votes more than dems 15 years ago, and now they are winning senate with only 200k margin. something is rotten in texas gop.

Not going to happen.  Beto couldn't win it even he somehow became the nominee.

Considering how close Beto came to winning with markedly depressed turnout in the RGV, I don't think this is as far-fetched as people think. Demographic trends are going to keep shifting Texas to the left, and there will be far better Democratic infrastructure in 2020 (Beto's campaign had huge grassroots energy but was very poorly/hastily organized). Also, I don't think this depends on Beto being nominated -- he didn't run all that far ahead of Generic D in 2018, and I suspect Cruz is more popular in TX than Trump will be in 2020.

Well Texas did gain two new blue voters since I moved here.

For real though, the gains Texas Democrats made in 2018 were nothing short of a blue wave on the local level; Dems need to be very careful about protecting and expanding those gains.

That would be amazing, but I don't see it happening. Literally everything would have to go perfectly for that Democratic candidate. At best, they may lose the state by somewhere between Clinton and O'Rourke's margins.

has anyone considered the RGV wasn't just a turnout issue as Lupe Valdez did worse than Wendy Davis in the RGV despite 2014 being the worst turnout midterm. It could maybe be that some hispanics in the RGV are actually switching.
