Assuming Governor Fairfax runs for governor in 2021, why do Atlas red users and Democrats think that VA is in the true blue state like a CA and a IL?

Can't the VA GOP retool by now and 2021?

VA would vote for literally anyone with a D next to their name, including Northam if he was eligible for reelection.

Northam's scandals are just the beginning. This year will be good for the state GOP after getting screwed for over a decade now.

the only way this scandal helps the VA Gop is that it gives them a very small chance to hold the state senate this year because of the tiebreaker rule

This whole scandal (and Northam's inevitable resignation/impeachment) helps Fairfax.

No way the GOP returns with Gillespie or Stewart and wins, especially against Fairfax.

No use bothering to finish your question when the answer ("VA being a blue state") is in the question itself.

This is a Ralph Northam problem, not a Virginia Democrat problem. They will continue to win statewide. Let's not forget that the Virginia GOP nominated Corey Stewart last year.

This is of course partially contingent on ditching Northam asap.

What will be interesting for the VA Dems in 2021 w/ Fairfax likely becoming governor today is that, if/when Fairfax runs for a full first term, AG Mark Herring (who deferred to Northam in 2017 but has also already declared his candidacy for governor in 2021) will probably find himself effectively blocked out of the race, or at least facing quite the uphill primary race against Gov. Fairfax & his incumbency advantage, not to mention his potential to become a Democratic superstar after this whole fiasco. (Plus, if you think of politics as a game of incentives, then the VA Dems have more of an incentive to run Fairfax again in 2021 since he likely has a much more promising political future than Herring does.)

So I guess waiting his turn might mean not getting a turn at all for Herring. Perhaps he just drops out of the governor's race altogether & runs for a 3rd term as AG so he can then run for Governor in 2025? After all, he's only 57 right now, & would only be 64 at the time of that election.

Virtually every Democrat has called for Northam's resignation. If Missouri GOP wasn't affected by Greitens' shenanigans I don't see how Virginia Democrats will be.

I think the VA dems will have a great future, but for the short term they have to distance themselves from Northam. I don't know why so many people think the VA GOP is going to make a comeback. Once, the maps are fixed at the end of this decade VA dems will have a trifecta for governing and Fairfax will certainly get reelected even the next midterms aren't good for dems.
