LBJ (D). This is a slam dunk. Might be my most enthusiastic vote in a GE from 1948 to 2008.

Had I been alive in 1964, my choice would have been Goldwater unreservedly.

With the knowledge of what Goldwater would eventually become - the fence-sitting 'fiscally conservative, socially liberal' squish beloved by the same Democrats who had slandered him as a genocidal madman- it's a much more difficult choice.

Swing voter who broke for LBJ.  My only Democratic vote for President of the Twentieth Century with the possible exception of voting to re-elect FDR in 1944.

Knowing what we know today? I wouldn't have voted. At the time, I probably would have been "half the way with LBJ" like many future anti-Vietnam activists were.

Goldwater. I'm no fan of his hawkish views, but in my heart, I know he's right!
