Remember the Ohio GOP wonder boy before Jon Husted?

What is the former 2012 Ohio GOP Senate candidate and former Ohio State Treasurer's political future?

Should he challenge Rep. Marcia Fudge in OH-11 or challenge Gov. DeWine in 2022? A presidential run in 2024?

If he wants to run for Congress, he should move back to Lyndhurst and try in the 14th district.

I think with his wife's health problems, he's probably done at least for now though. Even if he did, he'd have to primary David Joyce, who'd probably have the upper hand.

Any Ohio seat held by a Democrat, with the possible exception of Tim Ryan's district, is safe. He'd need to move elsewhere to get into the House.

Has anyone actually heard anything about his wife's health? It's understandable that it would be private but filing to run against Fudge is not something somebody who pulled out of a competitive Senate race for his wife's health would do. I guess he might not actually run though.

He would be on the shortlist to take Brown's slot, should Brown vacate the seat for higher office: Veep or Prez

Yeah, Mandel's a pretty strong candidate, but he would need a Joseph Cao situation to pull off that one.

Yeah, Mandel's a pretty strong candidate, but he would need a Joseph Cao situation to pull off that one.

Even that would not be enough. Cao's old seat was D+25, whereas Fudge's is D+32, the main difference being that Fudge has the black parts of Cleveland and Akron, along with all of the very liberal white suburbs of Cleveland. Fudge doesn't seem like the type to have a Bill Jefferson cash-in-the-freezer moment, but she'd still win anyway even if she did. And if she collapsed badly enough to have a chance of losing, the Democrats could still win OH-11 with a write-in campaign.  They would have to split their vote not only in two, but in five to have any plausible chance of losing.

According to Wikipedia, Mandel lives in Beachwood in Senate District 25 which is a (gerrymandered to hell) safe D seat, currently represented by the Minority Senate Leader.

It may look bleak for him now, but there's always a future from Ohio Republicans. We can't get rid of them.

Josh Mandel will be selected by DeWine to run in Brown seat, should Harris selects him as Veep, which I give Brown to Harris and Klobuchar to Booker. It would be up to Tim Ryan to take on Mandel or Portman
