It's super weird.  The only reason that the Dems have a chance is because Mitch McConnell is running (because of his unpopularity), but the reason that they will probably lose is because Mitch McConnell is running (because he's an amazing campaigner).

The reason they will lose is because Mitch McConnel has an R next to his name and its Kentucky.

The thing that worries me is by 2021, Amy McGrath and Jim Gray likely both have Senate and KY-06 losses under their belts. It's not a good look, and makes the KY Dem Party look like they have no bench.

It's an odd creature of a state party, maintaining several statewide offices, despite not being competitive in most top-tier races. Guess it's like the rest of the region, slowly haemorrhaging Democratic officials until the state's governance is ruby-red.

Mitch McConnell would slaughter Amy McGrath by double digits in 2020, just like he did to Alison Lundergan Grimes back in 2014. I expect him to win by ~14-20 points. He will almost certainly run behind Trump, but by only a few points, and nowhere near enough to be of any consequence. I even wonder if McConnell will carry Elliott County, the only county in Kentucky that he has never won. Trump will crush the Democratic nominee there, and that will probably help McConnell. Hal Rogers won it last year for the first time ever in his career (in a competitive race).

Rocky Adkins could give McConnell a run for his money. He represents a district in eastern Kentucky that went 80-20, and even though he's pro-life (which wouldn't turn off KY Dems) he's running against Cocaine Mitch so that by definition will pull support from Louisville and Lexington.

Maybe if McGarth legally changes her name to Mitch McConnell, she can confuse the hicks just enough to accidentally win

She should change her name to ILoveGuns ProLife. That actually might get the hick deplorables to back her against Cocaine Turtleman.

Safe R. It doesn't matter who the Democrats run, McConnell will win. My only worry about that race is that Democrats get some inspiring candidate who draws millions in small dollar donations away from other Democrats who have a chance, only to go on to lose by 15 points.

Democrats are even dumber than I thought if they put serious effort into winning this race.

Amy McGrath couldn't even win the second most Democratic district in the state during a D+9 Democratic wave year, a district that Democrats would need to win by double digits in order to have a chance statewide. Yet she's supposed to beat McConnell? Give me a damn break.

She should run, even if she is likely to lose.  There's plenty of money to go around, and it's important to run good candidates even in seemingly unwinnable races--unexpected things happen all the time in politics.  Also, if Beshear somehow wins the governorship this year, he can reward Mcgrath with a well earned position in his administration if she does come up short.

Is the elder Beshear retired?  Or would he want to run for a Senate seat?

I mean the Republican candidate is legally on the ballot iirc as Carl "Trump" Nett. If thats not pandering I dont know what is.

Steve Beshear ran against Cocaine Mitch in 1996 and lost 43-56. If he couldn't do it 20 years ago, we're going to just have to hope we get a miracle.

Nah, only way is if she changes parties.

Cocaine Turtleman (R) would beat even ILoveGuns ProLife (D) in a landslide.
