Jennifer Rubin is a worthless hack and all of her opinions should be discarded.

And what has this to do with Bullock being a good candidate ?

IMO, Bullock seems to be a really good dark-horse, late-entry candidate: while others have already burned out by June or July, he could jump in at that point and mix up the whole field.

Out of all candidates, Bullock would get my early endorsement.

He isn't gonna win, at this late stage. He should of run against Daines.

Oh, I don't disagree that he'd be a strong general election candidate. In fact, I largely agree with the column. This makes me feel very sad about myself.

Democratic primary voters are simply not going to vote for a conciliatory moderate with zero appeal to marginalized communities.

I would rather he run for Senate and boot out Steve Daines.

Here's the article on Bullock's mixed record on guns
https://ktvh.com/news/political-news/2018/08/22/bullock-clarifies-position-on-assault-weapons-ban-gun-violence/

"ban on some semi-automatic asault weapons"

The only reason I would support him throwing his hat into the ring is to increase the chance of a progressive candidate winning the nomination. Otherwise, he would be much better off running for Senate in 2020.

there's no reason to believe the campaign tactics that work in a tiny state like montana will successfully scale to a national level

Thanks Tender for sharing this excellent analysis. This why I've been saying early on, why Steve Bullock should be the Democratic nominee for president. Not only would he have a great chance to beat Trump, and beat him badly, he would also be an effective president that the country needs.

In addition, I might say, Steve Bullock has also no baggage and he is fresh face with enough experience to get the job done. I hope for 1976 style wonder and see him winning the nomination. He shoud then pick Kamala Harris as his running mate.

I dunno, primary voters seem to like Biden and Harris

That being said, Bullock is a nobody and I can't see him getting very far

It’s too late. He’d be a fool to jump in now and frankly we need all the senators we can get. He should go all in on the senate seat rather than waste time flirting with a presidential bid that won’t go anywhere in a crowded field. That said,  I think he’d be a good fit in 24 if Trump wins. That’d give him some time to build a profile and work on some things.

In 2024, Gavin Newsom would be the frontrunner.

If he were capable of winning the primary this time around, I think he would be a stellar nominee. But, he doesn't have much of a chance, so I can't help but echo this statement.

Bill Clinton didn't join the race until September 1991.

I think if anyone can be the Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carteresque dark horse of 2020, it's Bullock. However, while I believed a dark horse candidate would be the Democratic nominee in 2020 (as other comments on this site show) I think that is less and less likely to be the case. It seems the press is ramming Kamala and Biden (especially the former lately) down our throats so with that and with the field being crowded, I don't think he has a chance, and it's a shame to because on paper, I think he can unify enough of all factions of the Democratic Party (something I don't see anyone else doing at this point) to be a strong General Election candidate against Trump. Honestly, despite some disagreement with him, Bullock is in my top 5 or at least top 10 for potential/declared Democratic candidates.
