Yeah but Cornyn is more likeable/entrenched/popular than Cruz and will outrun Trump by 5+ points, and there’s no way this seat will be more competitive than IA.

Not shocking lol

If Beto actually ran against Cornyn he would be the incumbent not Cornyn.

Great to hear. Great that a candidate that would have made this a lean R/tossup race is forgoing it for a longshot at the presidential nomination. Great to hear.

Not shocking lol

Cornyn is really unknown to the state, like, really unknown. Its similar to Nelson, where Beto actually has more name rec in the state than the sitting senator.

Name recognition from his race against Cruz, and Cornyn isn’t really as well-known as you’d expect.

Speaking of name rec, here are Cornyn's numbers:

Favorable: 34
Unfavorable: 21
Haven't heard enough: 43

But this also means Cornyn not overwhelmingly disliked, while an R is next to his name. Lean/tilt R, if Beto ran (obviously off the table now).

Cruz wasnt either, and Beto still ran well against him. This is an extremely good poll for the Senate so early if Beto were actually running for the senate instead of a longshot at the presidential nomination.

He could still change his mind.

Candidates for President can pull a Rubio, I'd imagine if Beto flames out he'll do that.

I wish it were that simple, but the filing deadline for TX is December of this year.

The IA Caucuses are in February of 2020.
Unless he pulls an Ojeda, he cant pull a Rubio.

Clearly Beto is more likely to win the presidency than this race, though. Roll Eyes

Too bad Beto doesn’t have a twin sister called „Bettina“ who can run for this seat, while he is running for President ...

Beto has a good shot at taking this Senate seat. Better than trying to contend with an already very crowded field of long shots.

No reason not to believe he wouldn't drop out if his numbers are terrible near that date.

Hopefully this helps to shake a bit of sense into him that he should run for Senate and not President.

Now, Beto will be a citizen from this point forward, due to Harris being the presumptive nominee

As the president of the Lupe Valdez/Beto O'Rourke/John Cornyn fanclub in Hays County, TX, I pronounce this poll as junk. While it is true that I and all my compatriots enthusiastically voted for Beto Purple heart against Nazi trash Ted Cruz, and for Lupe Valdez against far right Rethuglican Greg Abbott, neither of these candidates can match the love we have in our hearts for our Senator Cornyn. He is beloved.

This idea that Cornyn is more "likeable" or approved of than Cruz needs to be put to rest. The only advantage he has that Cruz didn't have is that 2020 might (more likely than not) not be a democratic wave.

O'Rourke is not running, but would have lost 52-48

Now that he is not running Cornyn wins 55-45
