Statement from President Tmthforu94

Lumine and I would like to extend our congratulations to ALL candidates who were elected this past weekend, regionally and federally. We had an excellent slate of candidates elected to Congress - Lumine and I are very excited to work with them. We are very happy to see a pro-Benson majority in Congress continue next session!

Going into this session, our top two initiatives were normalizing relations with China and passing a budget. We have made significant progress with China government officials - have had continuing positive talks on how to work together to stabilize the world economy. In addition, last night the budget was introduced, led be SoIA Ninja, and I am optimistic that it will pass quickly.

Over the coming weeks, we will work with each council and cabinet member to form a strategic plan for the upcoming session. I am proud of the work we have accomplished, but recognize there is still plenty of room for improvement - I will also be reaching out to every member of the incoming Congress to discuss policy goals that we can work together on to help ensure that next session sees more productivity in bill passage. I will share full details of this plan during a State of the Union address in early May.

Our administration continues it's efforts to operate in an active, effective manner - we are placing integrity and transparency at the forefront. We are always open to hearing questions/concerns/suggestions that The People may have.

Statement from President Tmthforu94: D.C. Rat Crisis

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser during a roundtable discussion today

Earlier today, I took part in a roundtable discussion that was hosted by Mayor Muriel Bowser on the rat crisis currently facing the District of Columbia. While this is largely a local issue, with the capitol being in the District and the amount of federal workers and presence in the area, I was invited to attend and help bring awareness to the growing issue.

The rat problem in D.C. has been spiraling out of control - we came out of today's meetings with action steps on how to take steps to improve. To give folks a backstory, the rats of D.C. have been multiplying rapidly in recent years and are attempting to take over the city According to this article, in 2013, there were 202 3-1-1 (animal control) calls related to rats. That number was over 6,000 in 2018. In addition to the inconvenience they cause, rats carry deadly diseases that can kill other small animals, including dogs and cats. The rats are especially prevalent in the areas near the White House, Capital Hill and other significant federal buildings. They destroy property and have ruined lives. These are not your normal rats - some can be very large and cause mass destruction. Rats have been reported that are larger than cat or possums.

After today's meetings, the city council will be implementing stricter regulations on businesses, especially restaurants, to ensure sanitation is kept up to code - they will also be promoting the use of trash compactors, which has shown to significantly reduce rat presence. Mayor Bower will be proposing additional funding to go to D.C. Department of Health's Rodent Control division, and in addition, the city will be applying for several federal grants to help with the cause. Dry ice has been successfully implemented recently, and by expanding those efforts, we believe we can bring down the rat population in the District. There is additional a pilot program underway to sterilize rats.

Our administration takes this issue very seriously and has pledged Mayor Bowser that we will work alongside her to address this problem. We are optimistic that we will quickly get the rat population under control, similar to how I succeeded as Southern Governor to address the Raccoon Crisis of 2018. Stay tuned for updates!

Thank you.

I think there was an ammendment the House made that it forgot to add to the final bill? If that is true, then this bill would be needed to be voted upon again by the Senate.

Statements from President Tmthforu94
So much is happening, issuing three separate statements on one post to save some space and time. Smiley

Australia Meetings
SoS Bruhg, Southern Delegate Wulfric and myself had a series of very productive meetings last weekend in Australia with political leaders. Key discussions involved trade relations and military security in the region, with an overall mission of further strengthening our relationship with Australia. As one of our closest allies in the world, we look forward to a continued partnership with them. We look forward to the upcoming elections on Saturday, May 18th, and continuing positive discussions with whomever the incoming Prime Minister may be.

Statement on Budget

As many know, due to a lack of urgency in the past, a budget for 2019 was not passed, rather, we had to proceed with several continuing resolutions to keep the government open. Up against the clock of an April 30 deadline, finishing the budget became a top priority for all of the administration in the last couple weeks. Last night we passed a budget - this budget reduces the deficit while providing needed funding to government services, all while keeping taxes at reasonable rates. I am proud of the work that was put into this, and now our administration will begin focus on other domestic agenda items, as well as beginning plans for the 2020 budget. One thing Lumine and I agree on is that there have been budget issues every year since the reset - we will look at how we can formalize and streamline the budget process so that it becomes a smoother process.

New Constitutional Amendment

Yesterday evening, I introduced a constitutional amendment specifying that a bill would become law if the president chooses not to take action on a bill. This is how I believe it was worded under the previous constitution, as well as the RL USA constitution and regional constitutions. However, it seemed to be missed under our fourth constitution. This is an important amendment that needs to be addressed to avoid a loophole that could be badly abused if we had a dishonest President - if they opposed a bill but didn't have the votes in Congress to uphold their veto, they could simply leave the bill on their desk and nothing would happen. Luckily for The People, Tmth is a very honest and transparent president, and rather than thinking about using this for my own benefit, I am attempting to correct this issue so that myself and future president's will never be able to do this. I hope Congress acts quickly and puts this before The People for a vote.

I am hereby proposing the following redraft of the "Glasses are Good to See Act" to make the bill more practical. In Section III, I don't think it should be a blanket $75 subsidy since you can easily get a pair of glasses for under that amount - people shouldn't be able to profit from this. I also propose adding that this isn't eligible for people who have vision insurance as that will typically subsidize the cost of vision insurance and people should go through their insurance if they have that. This should also bring down the overall costs of the program and concentrate it more on the people who need it.

I'm still not convinced on the impact this bill will have on the vision insurance industry - that concern was never addressed. This leads to Section V, where I propose this program only going for one year to determine it's effectiveness, subject to renewal. I'm generally not a fan of increasing taxes but could see the benefit here, so I'd like there to be a full cost analysis next year to determine if this program is viable long term and whether the cons of higher taxes/effects on insurance industry outweigh the benefits of this bill.

2. No single beneificiary beneficiary shall receive this subsidy more than once every 24 months.

Announcement from President Tmthforu94

I will not be a candidate in the June presidential election.

This decision was not made lightly - it was made after careful consideration and discussion with my close allies, Lumine especially. The decision is primarily rooted in our belief that it is time for fresh leadership in the game.

Back in February when we initially decided to run, we knew there was a high likelihood we would only seek one term. We had initially considered running again after being persuaded by leaders in my party who thought that we were the only ticket that stood a strong chance. Adam Griffin's entrance into the race helped make the decision, though. I am a two-term president, as is he. We have a negative history, though I'd like to believe the race would have stayed mostly clean, and I'm sure it would have been "newsworthy." What drew me away, though, is the fact that in a game that has so many quality posters who've never held the highest office, we'd be running two "old guard titans" that have each served for two terms as president already (as well as a term as VP for me). I think that it is a bit ridiculous and sad for us - we should not be at a point in the game where we keep running the same people over and over.

Windjammer told me in February that he believed it was time for the old guard to step aside and make room for new leadership. That is what I'm doing today. While Griffin may already be running, I hope this does not deter others from taking a shot at it who haven't had the chance before. In a Federalist/Right primary, I will not support a candidate who has already served as president. I am confident that the June election will still be lively and competitive and that new leaders with fresh ideas will emerge. Our nation is strong and the future is very bright. Cool

This is not a retirement - I am still very excited to serve in the game and believe there are other ways I can have a positive impact. I will defer to new faces on high office instead of jumping for the next big vacancy that occurs. I don't have plans for elected office in the near future - my hope is to work on story writing, whether through the GM department or by establishing a newspaper/media outlet. I think that is a massive area for growth in this game; it is something that has been lacking for a long time. There will also be pet issues that I'll continue to work on. I also know that we haven’t heard the last from Lumine, either. Wink

I will also say that my personal life played a huge factor in these decisions. I will be down in Ozarks during the week of the election, and especially with strong GOTVers like Griffin and Jimmy, it would be very hard to coordinate GOTV from my phone, and more importantly, it would be a distraction from what is going around me in the real world. If the race was a referendum on my administration and not a GOTV battle, I am highly confident I'd win, but it's not. I don't want to let Federalists down next month because I'm out on a pontoon boat instead of messaging voters. Tongue I am also vacationing in Napa in July, and August-October is peak hurricane season (I work in flood insurance). Atlasia deserves a fully committed president, and I can't say with 100% certainty that I'll have the time - if another Harvey hits (God forbid), I'd be working 12 hours days, 6 days a week.

For the rest of this term, I will continue to work hard as your president and accomplish the goals that were laid out during our campaign and in the State of the Union address. Our executive branch was a MESS when we took over and we have considerably improved in many areas - we will end this administration on a high note and leave the next administration in great shape. I will continue to fight for The People every day.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president - a high honor!

Statement from President Tmthforu94

Good evening - I am just able to get on the internet and catch up with the inappropriate comments made by Matthew in recent days. This type of racist behavior has no place in Atlasia and will not be tolerated by our administration.

I have asked the Vice President to remove Matthew from the Space Council. I plan to discuss this further at a later date, but as of now, I am on a partial LOA until Tuesday, May 28th. I am having a small procedure done and will be under heavy medication. I will still log on to sign legislation and other basic actions, but will not be actively participating in national or congressional debates.

Our administration, partnered with FEMA and regional governments, continues to monitor the storms and flooding very closely and are working very hard to ensure federal resources are provided to the victims of these natural disasters.

Statement from President Tmthforu94

This evening, a massive tornado devastated homes in my community and in the surrounding areas. My KC area of the metro was not hit - Benson and I are safe. The effects of this storm are heartbreaking and while there is significant physical damage, at this time, I am thankful that no fatalities have been reported.

I will personally be on-site later this week to help with disaster clean-up - I will not be taking a LOA. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with those who have lost their homes and for our communities as we clean up and begin the rebuilding process. We also lift up in prayer the victims of the constant flooding that continues to plague significant portions of the Midwest.
