Why...just why? He has absolutely no chance. Does Hickenlooper not understand that this is not the '90s anymore?

Also, there's way too many people running on the Democratic side. I know a lot of people think that they can beat Trump but many need to understand that not everyone especially moderates (especially on economic policy) can win the Democratic nomination anymore.

Hickenlooper would be a great candidate in 1992. I don't see how he wins now. However, I do like him. He is probably among my top choices, but not my favorite.

Heaven help us if the Democrats nominate someone as galaxy-brained naive as Hickenlooper.

Ahh yes, someone with tons of experience like yourself knows how things get done, what experience does Hickenlooper have? 2 terms as mayor of a major America city? 2 terms as Governor of a swing state? Bah, what loser! You have so much more experience in politics it's not even funny!

lol okay, bud.
If you want to be fooled into thinking we can nicely ask good-faith negotiator McConnell to stop as if this is some lackluster subplot on the West Wing, then by all means.

At least half of the people already running are doing so for the future book deals and speaking fees. And national-level politicians aren't exactly known for their lack of narcissism either.

Wow. That's just.... words fail.

Fortunately, I think anyone running on "bipartisanship" at this point is sunk. (Which is good, because the ability to even say something like that shows him as both dumber and less-politically talented than Trump.)

I don't care for him as a candidate, but I absolutely love his logo. Easily the best one so far.

He's out of office so he obviously doesn't have anything better to do.

This is why I think we are looking to simulate the 1972 election (not in vote totals but the rejection of the leftward turn the Democrats took).  A midterm win in 1970, far too many candidates that thought they could beat Nixon, nomination of someone who appealed to young voters/the base but not to the national mainstream, and a crushing defeat for the Democrats that November.

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has jumped into the Presidential race for 2020. Now, Hickenlooper will be VERY hard-pressed to find any lane in this field. His level of name recognition is low, the moderate lane would be sucked up by Biden if he gets in, and the fact that their not a lot of a progressive record to show for.

Right now, Hickenlooper will be around 1-2% of the vote in most polls but could work out if either Biden or Bloomberg do not run opening some room in the moderate lane or if the Democrats start moving back toward the center between now and then (doubtful to say the least). So what is Hickenlooper's purpose in this race? Show that moving the left after reacting to a defeat is not the right way to go? Prove that being a pragmatist is better than being a socialist? That a moderate needs to be the voice of reason for the party? That's the question some people are going to want to know not just of Hickenlooper but of all moderates getting into this race.

Hickenlooper and Klobuchar are the grown-ups in a party that has succumbed to socialism, open borders, and identity politics. Neither has a shot at the nomination, especially a straight white male.

If Biden doesn't run it's more than likely that most of his votes goes to Hickenlooper.

He clearly doesn't but I'm sure his overpaid consultants think it is...

And, as it turns out, opposed the referendum which legalised cannabis.

That's not a hurtful position though, because Democratic voters will overlook it as a meaningless topic (and in fact pot harms people) and appeals to centrist Republican voters.

Hickenlooper didn't win CO twice out of nowhere in 2 very Republican wave years (2010 and 2014) ...

Centrist Republicans won't be the ones propelling the nominee to victory. Democratic candidates will either have to make it or break it with the reformist faction, and for Hickenlooper, he's breaking it. Also, not only are there many medicinal benefits to cannabis, it has also substantially helped the revival of Colorado's economy

You can see why they would have no chance, just by looking at the responses on this thread. I would have zero qualms voting for Hickenlooper if he somehow became the nominee. A moderate centrist is what I think this country needs. But unfortunately, Democrats are going down the progressive lane, and are probably going to nominate Harris or some other far-left partisan.

Even though I should like him based in ideology, he's somehow boring. Hope Steve Bullock gets in soon.
