Political future of current Mayor of Ithica, New York, Svante Myrick?

Svante Myrick has had an incredibly difficult life growing up and has been able to inspire others with his success. Went in and out of homelessness as a child, father was an crack addict, mother moved the family alone from Florida to New York. He grew up poor and his family often had to rely on food stamps while his mother worked multiple jobs to support the family. Despite all these hardships, he was able to get into Ivy League Cornell University and become the youngest city council member of Ithica, New York at 20 years old. He ran and was elected Mayor of Ithica at the age of 24 in 2012 and has been Mayor since. Many speculate he may run for Governor or Congress in the future, maybe even President.

Personally I think he's the best GOP candidate for Governor. Tom Kean seems more interested in running for NJ-07, Tom MacArthur is too conservative and too pro-Trump to win statewide, and Kim Guadagno is too connected to Christie. Hugin has enough money and built up name recognition during his 2018 Senate campaign.

Bad idea for him. If we're gonna go with a legacy Kate Whitman seems like a better option, with Tom Jr. running for Governor in 2021.

If he couldn't even get within <10 points of Bob Menendez, then I don't think he's going anywhere.

I think Tom Jr should wait until when Trump is out of office. NJ-07 will likely go back to being favorable to Republicans post-Trump.

He only came close to the label of "competitive" because he was running against a lower-than-trash-tier candidate. Nobody voted for him, they voted against Menendez. If he runs again, he'll get buried even deeper.

A

He should not run for Gov due to his poor campaigning, if he ran for Senate he would probably win, even if Hogan or Steele were the GOP nominees

What is it with Republicans on this forum and Tom Kean, Jr.?

He's not that talented as a politician and he only got into the Legislature thanks to his family's name and connections, benefits that are rapidly receding. He's also probably too moderate to win a congressional or gubernatorial primary in this day and age--the base of the NJ GOP is in Ocean and Monmouth County now, not Union and Morris.

The Republican bench in New Jersey is extraordinarily bad at the moment. Christie and the 2017 & '18 elections have tarnished the brands of so many "stars" (if you can call them that) in the party-- Jennifer Beck, Tom MacArthur, Jay Webber, Hirsh Singh, and of course Guadagno. Hugin may not belong on this list but he still lost by 9 points against the objectively worst Democratic Senator up for re-election. If the GOP chooses them to run against Murphy in 2021 they'll lose big barring some giant scandal on the Democratic side.

Lifelong US Rep, will inevitably and justifiably lose a primary race if he ran for Governor again or for the Senate.

Murphy is a ticking timebomb. Things have been getting worse for him with Alvarez, tax hikes, and having a sh1tty relationship with Sweeney and Coughlin. It seems like his campaign was wrought with inappropriate/harassing behavior and his plan to chase away millionaires will just screw over the middle and lower classes because the taxes will fall onto them.

AOC is a crazy, whacky, nutty, NUTJOB who needs to go away because she's destroying the Dems & driving Independents & swing voters to the GOP.
