As an old, can someone help me out with the title. I thought that gender now refers to one's psychosocial state and opposed to sex which refers to one's biological state. If correct, isn't it only possible to have sex-selective abortions? If not, isn't this a throwback to the time of my youth when sex and gender were synonyms and gender was not seen as a separate thing from biological sex?

I didn't realize this until you pointed it out.  I think my default is (like it was when you were younger) to subconsciously think of gender and sex as synonymous.  So for the younger crowd, I probably meant sex-selective abortions.

I suspected that was the case. I've noticed that Millennials do take the same default from time to time. Then they can't figure out why Boomers don't get that gender and sex no longer mean the same thing when applied to people.

I would not actively try to pass such a law (because this isn't a widespread phenomenon in the US to make it a significant problem, as it is in places like India and China), but I also wouldn't actively oppose it.

What I'd really like is to stop people from knowing the sex of their baby until it is born. That way we could finally do away with all these ridiculous "gender reveal parties" that are just an excuse to make you buy the parents another gift in addition to the baby shower present.

[Having a disproportionate male demographic with few females is a demographic time bomb. We have seen in China and India that there is too few females to start families with, resulting in cross-border marriages, resulting in even more ethical and demographic issues. I’m talking about increased violence due to a smaller dating pool, reduced births, and a general disruption in the social order.

This is already occurring in the West. 6’2+ chads with big wrists and positive canthal tilts take at least 80% of the women.

Absolutely, unequivocally, AND the fact that this type of discrimination is possible proves that any abortion (in such cases) is a crime against the individual fetus.

I'd rather not pussy-foot around the issue and instead ban abortion for any reason (minus the rape, incest, and life of mother exceptions).

If abortion is legal, it should be legal, regardless of the motivations.

Yes, as I support banning abortion in general, it would be very strange to include an exemption for gender-selective abortions.

If you're pro life you'd support banning it of course, as with other elective abortions.  I don't see gender selective abortions aany worse than a woman having an abortion because she doesn't want the kid.  Both kinds should be illegal.  Also, I don't see how a pro choice person would want to ban it, why is this choice any different?  If you believe it's just tissue, why is it a political issue?

This is why I voted no in the poll question.

For a very interesting take on sexual-orientation-selective abortion, you should see the movie/play "The Twilight of the Golds."
