Gentlemen, the President has decided to redraft this bill and it is now sent back to the Senate to start the new process. Per the Senate rules we will need to hear whether the redraft is accepted or not by the original sponsor.

Since Tack is no longer a Senator, the floor is open for someone to request sponsorship.

For the record, I am fine with all the proposed changes.

I would also like to see some further discussion about the funding for the bill, especially as we now have an up to date budget and as I think the House, as well as the president raised some concerns about the tax increases.

Quoting proposal for reference.

I am hereby proposing the following redraft of the "Glasses are Good to See Act" to make the bill more practical. In Section III, I don't think it should be a blanket $75 subsidy since you can easily get a pair of glasses for under that amount - people shouldn't be able to profit from this. I also propose adding that this isn't eligible for people who have vision insurance as that will typically subsidize the cost of vision insurance and people should go through their insurance if they have that. This should also bring down the overall costs of the program and concentrate it more on the people who need it.

I'm still not convinced on the impact this bill will have on the vision insurance industry - that concern was never addressed. This leads to Section V, where I propose this program only going for one year to determine it's effectiveness, subject to renewal. I'm generally not a fan of increasing taxes but could see the benefit here, so I'd like there to be a full cost analysis next year to determine if this program is viable long term and whether the cons of higher taxes/effects on insurance industry outweigh the benefits of this bill.

Bump! We still need a sponsor. Is there a Senator willing to motion for sponsorship? Otherwise we will have to table this based on the Senate rules.

We have a sponsor. Senator, will you accept the Presidential redraft or request an override?

Since no one voted, I ask unanimous consent to extend the vote 48 hours, Senators have 24 hours to object. I will also PM the link to the Senators, since some may have been confused by the shift from not having a vote to having a vote and thus why people didn't see it.
